#deorbit
People are saying the satellites will just deorbit themselves. True: if fully-functional, the satellites force faster deorbit over the course of 6 months, but the natural deorbit takes years. There's >9,600 of them. SpaceX has allocated $0 towards deorbiting broken satellites.

once again, no, we should not nationalize starlink

we should deorbit them all.

You want to deorbit Starlink because microsatellite constellations are bad for astronomy

I want to deorbit Starlink to deny rural Americans high speed internet access

We are not the same

If something goes wrong, they just have to deorbit and crash it. There's no way to economically maintain these shitpackets.

And, if the astronomers make a convincing enough case, deorbit the lot.

Yesterday, on the Starlink Group 17-32 mission, SpaceX had another failed deorbit burn. While the stage was unable to deorbit itself, the propellant was vented which did lower the perigee to 110km. SpaceX has already delayed several Starlink mission as they investigate the issue.

That is the second stage of a rocket venting its fuel overboard to passivate itself after a deorbit burn. *Probably* the Ariane 6 that launched out of Kourou around 8:30 US/Eastern this evening.
