I had a lot of fun with #Python in the last year, but whoever thinks that #Java dependency management with #Maven and #Toolchains is hard, did never experience Python, Pip, virtual environments and system package managers, let alone breaking changes in minor versions all over the place.

Here's a thread with a brief history of dependency management in Go.

For those of you newer to Go, it might surprise you to know that go modules was not always part of the language. When Go launched in 2009, it did not have any dependency management solution as Google had no need for one.

It's 2025, and I’ve finally updated my Python setup guide to use uv + venv instead of conda + pip!
Here's my go-to recommendation for uv + venv in Python projects for faster installs, better dependency management: github.com/rasbt/LLMs-f...
(Any additional suggestions?)

what’s the name for a version-and-dependency-and-more manager like `uv`? I don’t know, but I’m building one for Ruby anyway

rv, a new kind of Ruby management tool
For the last ten years or so of working on Bundler, I’ve had a wish rattling around: I want a better dependency manager. It doesn’t just manage your gems, it manages your ruby versions, too. It doesn’...

Pierre Poilievre’s costed budget depends on a never-ending trade war so he can use tariff revenue to pay off debt. Without the trade war, he can’t afford his tax cuts.

That’s not crisis management, it’s crisis dependency.

At the first ever KoalaCon @owasp.org shared insights into how TEA (Transparency Exchange API) can help automate your product lifecycle. This will be essential to dependency management and vulnerability management in the future. And you can be part of it! #cybersec #appsec #dependency-management
KoalaCon 2024 was a huge success. Thank you to all the speakers, including Olle E Johansson, Anthony Harrison, Niklas Düster, Viktor Petersson, and Piotr P. Karwasz. Couldn't attend. No worries, the recording is available on YouTube.

Hate the way in recent years when you want to install a program on Linux you can no longer just apt install but you have to run a complicated dance of figuring out if it uses apt or snap or flatpak or whatever.
The whole point of distros is to have dependency management so you don't have to do this
