Hey Andy, better buy pre-bonsai material from a nursery, which has grown already for a few years. Deshojo is the maple you want to have. If you grow it from seed you will need 30-40 years for a great bonsai. My 15 y.o. jap. crabapple bonsai and my 12 y.o. deshojo (from 6 weeks ago) for reference.

Made a start on the son's garden patch.
Rock placements.
Fern, hebe, armeria planted.
The established large hebe is flowering well currently. Have been gradually pruning to be more compact and less leggy.
Will add a creeping ground cover or two. Likely leptinella or similar.

Lo queramos o no
sólo tenemos tres alternativas:
el ayer, el presente y el mañana.
Y ni siquiera tres
porque como dice el filósofo
el ayer es ayer
nos pertenece sólo en el recuerdo:
a la rosa que ya se deshojó
no se le puede sacar otro pétalo. (N. Parra)

#thicktrunkTuesday One of Wisley’s mighty oaks standing at the top of the Rock Garden and overlooking Oakwood, the area of the garden that was planted by a previous owner, George Wilson. If you look closely you can see the red leaves of Acer palmatum Shin-deshojo. I will post a close up in replies.

Yo deshojo tréboles, en vez de margaritas. No me gustan los juegos de azar.

En el jardín de la mañana
escampa la noche
y florece toda la luz.
Deshojo el día
preguntándome
si la vida me querrá o no,
yo siempre enamorado
de este aire
en el que tú estás…
escampa la noche
y florece toda la luz.
Deshojo el día
preguntándome
si la vida me querrá o no,
yo siempre enamorado
de este aire

I don't know what it was about the light during the sudden hail storm we had this evening, but our Acer 'Deshojo' looked incredible.
Photo does not do it justice.
