this is so frigging insane. we're worried about hardened Japanese tourist/business traveler radicals destabilizing the the US during their visits?
Japanese netizens are shocked by a tweet from the US Embassy declaring that Japanese people applying for non-immigrant visas must provide information on all social media accounts they have used in the last 5 years [or their visas could be rejected].
Some are comparing it to China & North Korea.

the obliteration of the video games industry has to be one of the biggest destabilizing events to ever hit the neurodivergent population of earth. this was... the job we could do

part of what makes the last decade so destabilizing is the disappearance of the presumption of regularity, i think. that’s a term of art for the courts, but it applies for the rest of us, too, and it’s as destabilizing as any other thing trump has done.
if you’re 45 today, you can remember a time, as an adult, where things didn’t seem anywhere near this bad, even though you lived through the OKC bombing, 90s pro-life ultraviolence, 9/11 and the war on terror

Genuinely destabilizing events being ignored because the press no longer knows real fear
Still can’t over the fact that the president of the United States just told an entire state to pound sand after getting cyberattacked by a foreign adversary because they didn’t vote for him and it was treated like a Tuesday lol

Update: I'm working on legislation to ban corrupt and destabilizing prediction markets, where insiders who know the outcome (especially in government) can rig the game to favor certain bets.
I want to talk about a dystopian world we are entering - where every moment, event, and crisis just become commodities.

Life stops being something we live, but something we sell and trade. It will breed both corruption & emptiness.

1/ A 🧵on why our politics can't ignore this.

Stability is destabilizing
The muted market reaction to Trump's tariff and Treasury threats suggests that investors discount whatever he says as the ravings of a confused, weak old man. And this is working to his advantage!

We as Americans cannot fathom how profoundly destabilizing Trump’s insane Greenland saber-rattling was to European allies. It was a rupture that will never be fully repaired — and yet America has already forgotten it.
Danish troops dispatched to Greenland in January took enough explosives to destroy the island’s main runways near the capital Nuuk and at a former fighter base, following Trump’s threats
Denmark was ready to blow up Greenland runways if US invaded
Danish soldiers sent to Arctic island in January were also given blood supplies in case of combat
