Getting my DFAM and CPM DS-2 going in the new mostly empty diy eurorack case. Checking to see how loud it is outside. Not too bad

The Start of the Dave Welder experiment. A lot of the sound scape for Bulk was made on the Moog Mother 32... Theres a DFAM there but I still haven't got my head around that. Beep Boop!

I almost fell for a free DFAM-like vst, which is probably just vibe-slop.
Then I realized I own 2 DFAM and my enlightenment of just use what I have was complete.

the current list on the chopping block (i could get rid of a few more things but i would really prefer not to)

..or -if you want to achieve exactly the same punchy sound the DFAM produces- buy a Behringer Edge for about 150 €

mind you thats not a diss on other drum machines. there are plenty out there which are considerably more affordable for similar results, but the dfam is beautiful and i think about it all too often aha
September 23, 2026 at 6:14 PM
its perhaps a little basic to some, but my white whale when it comes to synth gear right now is the moog dfam. i cant even exactly place why, but ive avoided purchasing other drum machines just because i really only have eyes for the dfam...

btw i absolutely know behringer is shameless and their producer trio is a clone of the moog soundlab but with stupid patch placement and the edge/dfam is so fun because moog made it HOWEVER im not moog rich, sorryy

Put that iPhone, iPad, or Mac to some use: this thing now not only spawns melodies for your apps and gear, but also does DFAM-like percussion and basslines. To yesterday's comment, there are some real techno possibilities when you put this in the right hands.
Elastic Melody now does bass and DFAM-style percussion, too (Mac, iOS) - CDM Create Digital Music
Elastic Melody was already a go-to melody generator for Mac, iPad, and iPhone, with an internal synth engine inspired by the brilliant Dave Smith Evolver and the ability to output to other apps or har...

DFAM is a drum synth and drum synths are fucking brilliant at bass lines if you know what you are doing. One of the best was the Korg Volca Drum. That thing made my sub cry and things fall off shelves in a different room.

Eager to demonstrate, he hooks up his newest toy (a tiny desktop synth called the Moog DFAM) and tweaks its copious knobs and dials.

"I can't read instruction manuals, but I've watched YouTube tutorials," he says, generating a growling bass line that sounds like the dawning of the apocalypse.

If Dfam partitions are missing at startup, the pipeline stops immediately and tells you exactly what to run. No wasted compute time.

The Dfam 4.0 partitions are also much smaller than those in Dfam 3.9, so those with tight storage should find this new implementation to be a big improvement.
