Important follow up question when did you start reading fic/get on the internet bc is this a generational divide thing?? I didn’t have my own device until like 2011 and didn’t discover ao3 until like 2013/2014

2000 here. I recall hammering the Florida state election page with my ad-supported free dialup internet as the margin sank to less than 500 votes in the middle of the night.

Every time I see a “prove your are human” gate to view a webpage reminds me that the internet is for AI bots now, not people.

A late friend paid extortionate amount to plusnet for 24mb ADSL. Only got near dialup speeds. He wouldn't complain. I hounded him until he did. BT came and said "wow, surprised you're getting anything on this chewed up copper" temporarily gave him BT test line to use. His downloads that took 9 hours
