I'm realizing how many of my OCs are relatively self-sufficient when it comes to extracting themself from difficulties.

Generally I'd say Beck is one who likes to find trouble, and Shoto is often the one to back them up when things get dicey.

The tricky decisions i have to make when revamping ocs

Do i keep the porn dynamic that was the entire reason for the characters existence

Or do i remove it to give the sensitive topics a little more grace

Very difficult with an oc who was made for porn but ended up with a deep dicey plot

A handful of doodles from this evening

#artnerd1123 #tadcoc #diceydungeonsoc #paradice #sketches #ocs
Six small sketches of Meep, my digital circus oc. Two of the sketches are them squeezing bubble like a squeaky toy, one is of them loafing, and the rest are them sitting around. Four headshot sketches of Beast, my dicey dungeons oc. She is confused, yawning, and listening closely.

I keep considering the idea of making a half-troll OC or retconning one of my already existing OCs to be a half-troll, but I feel like with biracial fantasy characters I have to be more delicate with how to approach it, especially when the source material is already very dicey with racial topics

And the four that weren't so well-received:

#19: Roll + Unlucky/Spreader (Day 4): 15 Reposts, 99 Likes
#20: Naomi + Pumpkin/Cursed (Day 31): 21 Reposts, 94 Likes
#21: Bobbin + Humiliation/Reluctant (Day 22): 14 Reposts, 94 Likes
#22: Rainbow Brite + Stuck/Mistake (Day 28): 10 Reposts, 78 Likes
When I made the character list, I was hesitant to put Roll on it. Characters as young-looking as she is are always a dicey prospect for these kinds of series, but fact is she's always fun to draw, and there were several prompts I could see her working well with. None of which, admittedly, were this one! But when I got the image of some crafty hench-bot using her cyberbroom as a makeshift spreader/restraint device, and the subsequent thought of her finding a way to escape in spite of it, I decided to go for it anyway. I don't think the super-threatening gesture of having a Sniper Joe pointing its arm cannon at her head did it any favors. Didn't intend to set this up as a future execution- just a nice, Unlucky "Not so fast, you!" halt to her escape attempt, followed by being carried back to whatever cell they were keeping her in. None of that gets across in this picture, though. This one's only a couple days old, which might contribute to its low placement. It's also another one I didn't have as much time to work on as I needed; it's a concept that really needed some moody coloring, not just my usual quick grayscale pass. I still like it a lot, though! When I reposted the Dyse+Jail/Warden prompt, I mentioned how refreshing it was to draw one of my OCs with their outfit still fully intact, even if it's as revealing as Dyse's outfit is. I'd also been meaning to get a first draft of Bobbin's outfit done for a while; they're the proxy for my lacy/frilly lingerie kink, so I pictured it as a lace-trimmed corset-style body armor worn over a sleeved, frill-edged dress, a pair of breeches tucked into some thigh-high soft leather boots (joined to the armor with some garter-like straps), all topped off with a floppy musketeer-style hat. This sketch made me rethink some of the details, but it's pretty close to where I wanted to land! Naomi is ostensibly the character for this one, though, and her outfit's probably due for a revamp. Had to put Fara's hair down, or her topknot would've blocked pretty much all of Bobbin from view. Given the reaction to the next prompt, though, I'm not sure how many of you would've minded! Wow, cold reception for the new kid! But seriously, this is one that sounded better in my head. Bobbin's got an awkward pose because, for some reason, I seem to be overly keen to hide the fact that Bobbin's not exactly a girl. Hey, it's y'all's fault; I seem to have engineered a femboy that passes for a girl pretty easily, which is either a testament to my skill or an indictment of it! (They/Them pronounts for Bobbin, though; they're not exactly a *boy*, either) Bobbin's situation's a little more complicated than "lol that's a boy", and I hope to get more into it when I finally put together their reference/background. I keep putting off doing model sheets for my OCs, but fact is that, when I haven't been doodling composition ideas for these sketches in my notebook at work, I've been sketching details and character notes for Bobbin and various points surrounding them. I had a plan to have Bobbin's glasses act as their "eyes", for purposes of emoting. Tried it out in this sketch, and... I'm not really thrilled with how it came out. Maybe it's the expression; reads as if someone put Dexter's Laboratory glasses on an anime character. Maybe it just needs refinement. But that's part of what these sketches are about when it comes to the OCs- trying out things I wouldn't want to do for the first time in an actual project! I geeked out about her in a few posts already, but Rainbow Brite's always been a series I've wanted to play around with. Er, not necessarily in my usual manner, of course. But yeah, this was the girl's cartoon I was secretly a huge fan of as a boy, when you just didn't admit these things to your school chums. It's always been a thing of me, though, and I suspect many guys my age had secret girl cartoons they were all about. People treat the Brony fandom as a huge fandom event, and for better or worse it *was* (though it's trended "worse" as time has gone on), but dudes have always been into girl shows if they give 'em half a chance. Rainbow's been out of the public eye for a while, though. She was never on the level of a My Little Pony or Care Bears even back in the day- her cartoon didn't run as long or as regularly, and past the initial run of dolls, I don't even think she had that many toys. They did a reboot for her back in the early '00s that made her and the Color Kids look like every other generic girly-IP clipart on the Internet. Tried again in 2014 with a cartoon mini-series that was geared to be the Feeln streaming network's answer to MLP:FiM. It... was OK? Molly Ringwald came in as the voice for the Dark Princess, that was nice. Other than that, well.. do you even know what the Feeln streaming network was without a google search? No? Neither did anyone else, even in 2014! Rainbow's always seemed like a series stuck in missed opportunities. So's this prompt, I guess! Honestly, she made the list because I've been dying to draw her for decades, but also because I appreciated the irony of putting one of the most color-centric characters in a project that's all about grayscale. Some of these are just for me, folks!

I think there is beauty in what other people can get out of what you make but so many people are looking for affirmations in other people's stuff. Idk. It's a very tricky dicey topic and maybe I'm coming from the angle of a guy with OCs and not like. a show runner or a game designer

I'm by no means immune to this but I think it's dicey to see your ocs through a familial or self-insert lens Especially if you rp them because while some bleed is inevitable you're just opening yourself up to getting deeply upset every time something negative happens to your characters in a story
