There's something really beautiful about canonical mathematical models or analytical frameworks (L-V in diffeq, epi study designs, etc.)
Just a testament the extent to which all our x-discipline problems are the same at some level of abstraction and the power of taxonomizing / naming them

Unironically, this is why we're losing to China. If made dictator I'd spend a Apollo amount on money on teaching higher math to people with dyscalculia, but everyone else is going into an enthusiastic math machine, and no one isn't taking diffEQ
We overrate the importance of natural aptitude for math achievement because currently, natural aptitude is required to survive multiple years of Bad Instruction with your interest in doing math intact.

the fires back in 2019 that closed down the school meant the fourth exam got rolled into the final worth even more, so i learned how to properly study then passed.
learning how to properly study was great because i aced every other class with him after that. literally missed like 5 points in diffeq

My opinion is diffeq should be optional. Computer science and communications are far more valuable than diffeq. Diffeq should be recommended for those who want to go into numerical modeling or become professors but I've never used diffeq working operations or building a python dataviz package.

I wish linalg was taught before diffEQ because it's so useful for diffEQ, but few diffEQ classes exploit that because it's not usually taught before diffEQ

In the past, I've proposed a "Advanced Math for Geoscience" that would go over aspects of Multi-Var. Calc, DiffEq, and Linear in an applied manner, but that has always been shot down by the math department. I think if there was an option for a combo/applied DiffEq/Linear course, that could be great.

We had a waves class as well as required DiffEq. Our students now have a math phys class as well as a required DiffEq with Linear Algebra.

This paper (w Zack Dunivin) was just accepted at Psychological Review. Presents both DiffEq and agent-based models exploring how identity signals are likely to change over time in response to pressures from potentially-hostile outgroups, with testable predictions. osf.io/preprints/ps...
