maybe I'm cynical but it doesn't make much sense to project future values for academic disciplines without any assurance of their continued material existence, or any real sense of an alternative basis for their existence, *as academic disciplines*

What prompted this thread was listening to one too many podcasts by game devs and game critics who've often admitted a cheerful ambivalence to other mediums and disciplines that–to me–oscillated between lazy apathy to outright disdain.
As you can see, it's gotten under my skin.

Early email from the uni today - apparently my faculty which includes 11 health disciplines has decided it's not going to take part in a Māori and Pacific employment/support programme. Just a one-liner that says 'cost implications'. I'm so DONE with this shit!

Exactly. What admin do is that they deliberately choose whichever number will help them justify stabbing disciplines they disfavor in the back. It’s a con game and we should refuse to play it.
