Let it out.

lmao i cannot stress enough that booktok is not an answer to 99% of book discoverability issues

Yes, discoverability can be a challenge here, but do you know what’s even more challenging? A system designed to actively *oppose* discoverability.

Even a small chance is better than no chance.

That chance has helped me see all sorts of cool art that I’d be walled away from elsewhere.

Creators - you should never be embarrassed to promote your own work. Excitement is contagious and the very nature of social media crushes discoverability.

I suspect the death of Twitter, myself—discoverability fell off a cliff there.

Substack sent a push alert to users not just of a Nazi sub but one that uses a swastika for its icon and people are still writing about the discoverability on the platform being hard to replace - I mean what are we even doing here

what eyepatch wolf is describing in this video where indie games are being “showcased” in scammy videos is infuriating but recognizably common. i’ve seen this with books and music as well. this isn’t just about media discoverability — it’s also curator discoverability too: youtu.be/YXqzmwTZXK8

Like man, my career only exists in the way that it does now because a production designer was googling "realistic pokemon" and found me. If he could have just had a machine spit that out, I never would have gotten a job. This is a major issue hitting artist discoverability.

The Steam Calendar might legit be the best thing I've ever seen in the games business for discoverability. I had never heard of 90% of the cool shit on here

"discoverability" is not something Patreon needs. I have never, in my life, thought "wow I just have so much money and I wish I could find more artists to give it to." It is a mind-boggling misunderstanding of the purpose of the site.

This is nonsensical. Libraries buy huge numbers of books you wouldn't otherwise sell. They're a massive discoverability vector for authors. The reasons behind the declining author earnings are not hard to guess. People read less, have less $ to spend, +media is being consolidated by megacorporations

It's basically what AI summaries are doing now, isn't it? Destroying discoverability. People don't find websites they just find summaries of them at the top of the page and very infrequently actually go past that.

It's hard to quantify the damage Elon Musk's done to gaming after buying Twitter, but the aggressive suppression of outgoing links alone has cratered the reach of gamedevs linking to their own works as well as gaming outlets, critics, streamers, game discoverability has suffered considerably.

I still don't think Next Fest solves any real discoverability issues given the number of games participating, but I'm gonna try to check out some while I can.
