That completely strips the distributive bargainer of his power to win or lose, to control the negotiation.

if you want an actual economic argument for rent controls, this is probably one of the best examples. elasticity is *extremely* limited in the near term for housing. the re-distributive effects by allowing rationing be dictated by prices are exceedingly regressive, as in "permanent displacement"
Los Angeles landlords are raising rents by as much as 124% after the wildfires.

no thoughts just this pinging back and forth in my brain forever: "the lack of access to sexual experiences can be seen as a concern for distributive justice"
Dying at this study of sexual habits that used the Gini index to compare P-in-V inequality to income inequality

the ape brain is wired for distributive questions so the temptation is to think things in "those fuckers" and "our shit" terms but the reality is clearly that power is the dangerous thing they have, not money.

One of the risks of distributive bargaining is bad will. In a one-time distributive bargain, e.g. negotiating with the cabinet maker in your casino about whether you're going to pay his whole bill or demand a discount, you don't have to worry about your ongoing credibility or the next deal.

I guess I’m about to be all meta, but with regard to a certain colorfully named distributive avian construct in my corner of the discourse:

I find it notable that the originators of said construct repeatedly insist that there is a single correct interpretation for how the construct is understood.

This is just liberal nonsense. This is a distributive problem with distributive solutions.

Listen, I'm ALL about math jokes. I make them all the time. But jokes about the distributive property are NOT funny.

Unless everyone gets it.

We may have hit a level of material comfort that politics have become less distributive and more expressive. I think this expressive form of politics is basically a luxury good, because people believe they will be "fine" no matter who wins so just do what "feels" right.

STV isn't proportional either, it's distributive.

Trade unionist and suffragist Cissie Cahalan (d. #OTD 1948) was the first and only female president of the Irish Union of Distributive Workers and Clerks (IUDWC). Her tenure oversaw the establishment of a minimum wage and an end to the living-in system. www.dib.ie/biography/ca...

significant chunks of the profession are still visible in their disdain and displeasure in that he made (re)distributive effects a major component in a lot of contemporary policy analysis lol. the years of outright denialism and attempts to slander him was pretty surreal.
You can think whatever you want of Thomas Piketty but it is objectively very funny how before he came along inequality was a subject of debate only for tweedy old economists wearing bowties

"Sex is not like money or wealth in every aspect"

It's not like it in any meaningful aspect!! It doesn't accumulate, we can't redistribute it. It's totally different for distributive justice!

More JPMORGAN: “.. Another notable feature is how downbeat service sector surveys have turned recently. Distributive services—travel, retail, and wholesale trade—are at the front lines of the tariff wars. .. if consumers need to spend more on goods, that will leave less income to spend on services.”

21. Power on Dartmoor is highly concentrated in surprising hands. Commoners. In most places, a commons is a distributive, democratic system. Here it’s the opposite: a small group of people exerting near-total control over vast areas. The “commoners”, lavishly funded by us, are more like aristocrats.

We're doing algebra when we know that 12*3 is 36 because we multiplied the 10 and the 2 separately by 3. That's the distributive law right there.
