One of the problems I have with drawing hands is if I use my own as models, they look stubby and weird, because I do not have long or elegant hands at all. I have the palms of a ditchdigger and fingers you usually find floating in brine in a can labeled “Vienna sausage.”

Two reasons: (1) most of us (especially us white Texans) don't have sufficient heat resistance for the job; and (2) picking crops has not just been grossly underpaid throughout history, but socially deprecated unless you own the farmland yourself. (See also "ditchdigger".)
