'Le Pont du Labastide' (1905) is one of Henri Martin’s final divisionist paintings, a composition of monumental grandeur. What I admire about this work is that he does not sacrifice his subject matter in favour of balanced design or chromatic richness; it's a scene as he saw it.

Unlike mainstream Divisionist artists such as Seurat or Signac, Henri Martin used contrasting colours for different passages in the same painting. This is shown well in his 'Le Pont du Labastide,' from around 1901 where it’s used to depict the textures of the stonework, the water, and shadow.
