“One need not love the Democrat to vote for one. One need only love one's Country more than any Party.” Polly Dogood, A Proposal for Holding One's Nose pollydogood.com/a-proposal-f...
A Proposal for Holding One's Nose
Mrs. Dogood recommends a Vote her Readers may not enjoy, upon the Example of her Grandpapa, who signed a Constitution he did not entirely approve.

I love political doggerel. What fun!
Your screen name is a clever play on Silence Dogood. I so enjoy folks who read History.

it's crazy how congressional races in red states are all like "Harold Crackerton (R), owner of a law firm that specializes in suing single mothers" vs "Billy Dogood (D), founder of a nonprofit that pairs kittens with underprivileged widows"
After Jeffrey Hulum III retired from the U.S. Army, he returned home to Gulfport, Mississippi and saw a need to address food insecurity in his hometown.

He founded Extend a Hand, Help a Friend, a nonprofit with the goal of solving that very problem.

On the Eve I opened the Ledger to see what the Conservatives have conserved. Not the Debt (now $40.6 trillion), not the Purse, not Trade, not the Peace, not the Walls of the House. One Line is full: Loyalty to one Man. That is not a Party. It is a Court.

Upon the Eve, and What Is Conserved
On the Eve of the Polls, Mrs. Dogood asks what the Conservatives have conserved, reads the Ledger Line by Line, finds it empty on every Line but one, and recalls that in her Grandpapa's Day the Men who conserved the King called themselves his Friends.

A Lady who loses by a Point, shakes Hands in August, and in November turns over the Table because, she says, she was not made welcome, has not put her Country first. Michigan chose well in August. Be wiser still on Tuesday.

In Grandpapa's Day the Party that conserved one Thing only, the King, called themselves the King's Friends. His own Son was one, and lost his Father for it. A Party that conserves nothing but a Man is a Court. Tomorrow, conserve something real.

A Pickpocket's whole Art is Distraction. Billionaires and the Congressmen they keep touch your Life more than any Trans Person, Data Centre or Bogeyman of the Week. They have you looking left while a Hand is in your right Pocket.

Upon Counting the Villains
Told by the Television that the Republick is in mortal Danger, Mrs. Dogood counts the Villains herself, finds 172 Billionaire Families on one Side of the Ledger and roughly none of the other Menace, and goes round the Back of the House to see what the Fox has been doing in the Henhouse.

I counted the Villains myself. Men in Skirts after our Daughters' Medals: roughly none. Billionaires buying this Congress: 172 Families, $1.7 billion. I know which Wolf is at the Door, and it is not wearing a Swimsuit.

A Reflecting Pool shows whatever stands before it. Narcissus saw only himself in one. Today a President stood beside Mr. Lincoln's and saw Vandals and a new Name for it. A Shame he cannot see his true Reflection. Tomorrow we may say what we see.

Upon the Reflecting Pool
On the Day the President made his closing Appeal beside Mr. Lincoln's Pool, Mrs. Dogood sets her Satire aside, tells the true History of the Pool, counts the Part of the Iceberg that shows above the Water, and reads what Mr. Lincoln and Grandpapa's Generation foresaw of the Way a free People loses its Liberty.

Yes Franklin was horny but more importantly, like most of his famous peers he was a born poster. Silence Dogood was a legendary bit
Me: what were you thinking when you wrote the founding documents of the unite-

Ben Franklin: So you're telling me I can press a button on this box and see boobs?

Boston, April 1722. A newspaper starts getting letters from a widow named Silence Dogood. They turn up at night, pushed under the print shop door.

The paper's writers love her. They spend months guessing which learned man in town she really is.

Every one of them guesses wrong.

In 1798 John Adams signed a law: no ship could land her cargo until the captain paid 20 cents a month per sailor for their medical care. The Founders' own health plan. Today's Congress cuts close to $1 trillion from Medicaid. Today's letter:

Upon the Seamen's Hospitals
Mrs. Dogood discovers that the Founders' Government ran a Health Plan, recalls the Hospital her Grandpapa got built by a small Piece of Cunning, and compares both with what the present Congress has done to yours.

A tariff is a tax in a travelling coat. Grandpapa told Parliament so in 1766. The Constitution gives the power to lay it to Congress alone. This Congress lent it away, then voted that days were not days so it needn't vote at all. Today's letter:

Upon the Price of Things
Mrs. Dogood recalls what her Grandpapa told Parliament about Duties, observes that a Tariff is only a Tax in a Travelling Coat, and asks a Congress which once struck Days out of the Calendar to strike a Vote onto the Record instead.

In 1721 my family's newspaper set type against smallpox inoculation, and was wrong. Grandpapa spent his life making up for it. Today's letter: the Founders expected to be improved upon, and they would have read the science.

The Framers Would Have Read the Science
Mrs. Dogood confesses that her Family once set Type for the wrong Side of a Medical Question, observes that the Founders expected to be improved upon, and offers eighteenth-century Physick to those who would govern by eighteenth-century Lights.

Upon Grandpapa's Diamonds

In 1689 England declared a King's power to dispense with the laws illegal. This week a federal judge reminded the President's lawyers of much the same. A law that binds only when the President pleases is not a law. It is a favour. A new letter.
