The great guys of SF Adaptive Cycling, a group devoted to providing recreational opportunities for the disabled, fell in love with Dottie last year and made her their mascot, with her photo in their newsletter. Today I got an email asking about Dottie and me and saying they hope to see us soon. 😭

SF Adaptive Cycling only operates in the park during the tourist season; they hadn't seen Dottie and me since last fall and don't yet know that she has died. This Saturday I'll have to go pay them a visit and convey the unhappy news that their beloved mascot has left us.

History doesn't repeat itself, they say, but sometimes it rhymes. Here is Beatrice, yesterday, and Dottie, five years ago.
Small grey dog Beatrice hides under an old jacket of mine; only her snout peeks out. Here's my former dog Dottie hiding under a blanket. Like Beatrice, all we can see is the tip of her snout peeking out. But Dottie added a twist: she's upside-down.

This little-known spot in Golden Gate Park features a mysterious Druidical circle of dressed stones. Some of us call it Doghenge.

Seven years ago today: the first video Dottie made with me. I'd had her all of three weeks and she was already trustworthy off leash and had a good natural recall. This sweet senior was remarkable in every way. 😍

Yesterday Beatrice the Perpetual Motion Wonder Dog met my friend @kimoco.bsky.social and (after some squirmy excitement) gave Kim kisses on the face and then settled comfortably in her lap.

This looks to be the start of a beautiful friendship. 🥰
