Got a couple weeks of minimal hours at work to make sure the cardiac recovery and rehab go smooth, which is great because I have less than 3 weeks to finish all this for a Heresy event.
Sadly the shattered legion isn't possible in that time with my work flow, but this should be doable.

Sat at home after a very long week at work, relaxing by creating some custom units for my Horus Heresy Lost Legions army. Homebrewing units and special rules seems to be a dying art, fewer and fewer people do it these days. Anyone else got any homebrew units to share? Model pics or rules ideas?
A screengrab of Microsoft Word, showing my unit card. It's the profile for an "Iapetus Command Engine", based on a Domitar Battle Automata. It's a table showing the stats and special rules for my own homebrew unit, which is designed to lead an army of zombified, mindlocked Space Marines from the lost II. Legion into battle, so it has rules reminiscent of the Synapse Creature rules from 40K 3rd Edition. Marines close to the Iapetus will be able to carry out additional actions and have improved stats.

As for mine, this is their lore so far - basically mind-slaved to a collective mind consciousness housed in automata. The robots are going to be the centrepiece of the army, the marines are just their slaves, so I'm going to have lots of Castellax and a Domitar as the "synapse creature" in charge.
The Myriad was one of the two “Lost Legions”, who were subjected to the Emperor’s Edict of Obliteration. Both Primarchs were expunged from history and almost all their legions destroyed, and the true secret of their existence was known only to Malcador the Sigilite. But of the II. Legion, some few legionaries deployed far on the Eastern Fringe survived the purges, and amidst the maelstrom of the Horus Heresy it remained Malcador’s chief goal to eradicate these last few witnesses to their existence. The II. Legion shared much with the Iron Hands, both favouring augmetic enhancement and a desire to replace the weakness of their flesh with the strength of cold iron. In pursuit of this end, experiments were authorised with post-initiation cortical implants. What began as an effort to develop a battlefield telepathic communication implant soon spiralled into the creation of the Parapathic Node. This was intended to allow the Myriad to control battle automata by the power of thought alone, through an emergent cognitive analogical system. The implant failed, and the legionaries who received it soon lapsed into irreversible coma – but it became clear that these were the least of the experiment’s unintended consequences. Haphazardly at first, but soon with greater clarity, the aggregated minds of the legionaries began communicating from within the datacores of the automata. Even more disconcertingly, the Parapathic Nodes of the comatose legionaries could receive instructions from the growing gestalt consciousness. There was clearly unintended neural merging on an enormous and irreversible scale, but while many legions would have held back, the Myriad sensed an opportunity to ascend to a higher state of machine consciousness. More Parapathic Nodes were implanted, more legionaries lapsed into permanent catatonia, and the collective mind of the legion grew. The new consciousness itself took on the name of the Myriad, with the legion relegated to mere zombie-like s…

When the II. Legion dabbled in mind-consciousness transfer, their Iapetus-class robots became battlefield beacons for the legion's new gestalt consciousness. These command engines now broadcast commands to the mindslaved legionaries.

A lumbering Domitar battle automata, with two graviton hammers and a missile launcher. It has blue grey armour with a few vertical white stripes on some of the armour panels. The trim is a worn brass colour. A close up of the face plate with two red lenses. The Mechanicum symbol has been removed from the chest, instead the shoulders bear a stylised infinity loop and a Roman numeral 2. A view from ground level, looking up at the automata and showing its height and power well. A rear view, showing the metal pistols and cabling behind the smooth armour on the front.

This #WIPWednesday I'm working on a Domitar battle automata. I'm starting a new legion for the Saturnine box, thinking of doing a lost legion (perhaps II.) They're going to be mindslaved meat puppets dominated by out of control automata - and this will be the master!
#Nerdlings #HorusHeresy
A hulking Domitar class battle automata, unpainted and on the desk ready for painting. It has two huge graviton hammers as weapons, and a plain curved plate with one or two lenses is all it has for a "face". A missile launcher peeks out from behind its head.

This guy has too much rust on his hammer arm, hey Google, how to remove rust from domitar ferrum. Domitar ferrum, truly has iron within and without... cause its a robot Turns out my phone can just extract items out of images by just clicking them, neat! Discovered this when I took a selfie and accidentally started dragging my face around my screen, not the best sight in the world. Wait, do these things have a 2000 character limit! I've got to do something! According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Ooh, black and yellow! Let's shake it up a little. Barry! Breakfast is ready! Coming! Hang on a second. Hello? Barry? Adam? Can you believe this is happening? I can't. I'll pick you up. Looking sharp. Use the stairs, Your father paid good money for those. Sorry. I'm excited. Here's the graduate. We're very proud of you, son. A perfect report card, all B's. Very proud. Ma! I got a thing going here. You got lint on your fuzz. Ow! That's me! Wave to us! We'll be in row 118,000. Bye! Barry, I told you, stop flying in the house! Hey, Adam. Hey, Barry. Is that fuzz gel? A little. Special day, graduation. Never thought I'd make it. Three days grade school, three days high school. Those were awkward. Three days college. I'm glad I took a day and hitchhiked around The Hive. You did come back different. Hi, Barry. Artie, growing a mustache? Looks good. Hear about Frankie? Yeah. You going to the funeral? No, I'm not going. Everybody knows, sting someone, you die. Don't waste it on a squirrel. Such a hothead. I guess he could have just gotten out of the way. I love this incorporating an amusement park into our day. That's why we don't need vacations. Boy, quite a bit of pomp under the circumstances. Well, Adam, today we are men. We are! Bee-men. Amen! Hallelujah! Students, faculty, distinguished bees ... 5 Veletaris veteran flamers, nulnless and sad, hidding their un-shaded shame behind welding masks

Initially planned to convert this domitar ferrum into a unique character called the bone collector but now I have to out of necessity cause the guy that sold it to me like 6 years ago stiffed me on parts : / Oh well. Necessity breeds creativity. #HorusHeresy
A miniature of a robot it’s missing its right arm, has a machine gun on its right should and has a big shield attached to its left arm. A miniature of a robot it’s missing its right arm, has a machine gun on its right should and has a big shield attached to its left arm. The shield has a cage with a skeleton affixed inside. A picture of a warhammer 30k domitar ferrum. It’s been drawn over with its hammer now a pair of saw blades, its face wreathed in flames, tendrils floating around it with skulls and helmets attached, and skulls festooned on the shield.
