All these buildings were cleared by the middle of the 20th century, and now we're left with this mound probably featuring some remnants of these buildings.

Casual birding at Donmouth today produced this pair of Gadwall and a rubbishy phone picture of them. Quite a scarce bird locally, but not quite as rare as the lovely summer plumaged Slavonian Grebe I saw nearby off Aberdeen beach.

Not to reinforce any stereotypes, but it was so cold in Aberdeen yesterday that my drone refused to fly. So here are a few ground-level photographs instead. Breakfast at Mount, a walk along the beach at Donmouth, a lap of Woolmanhill and a visit to the Christmas market.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Fresh air and slightly less-than-fresh snow in Old Aberdeen today. I’d hoped to spot some deer or owls on the empty golf course, but it wasn’t to be. Lovely colours in Donmouth and Seaton Park though.

Not convinced I got the best photographs this autumn (I took holidays too early and the better weather arrived too late) but there were a few brighter days to be had. And I suppose what really matters is I got some fresh air, exercise and enjoyment from taking them.

🙌 Well done to the volunteers from Unique Group who took part in two cleans at the Donmouth in Aberdeen yesterday and today!

I did most of my owl-spotting at Kings Links Golf Course in Aberdeen towards the end of 2023, but I caught one last glimpse of them in early 2024. They’d started to expand their range slightly but still made the odd pass of Donmouth Nature Reserve.

It might be a little early to start the retrospectives but the weather looks pretty rotten for the rest of the year so here’s my wildlife highlights of 2023.

1. Otter at Figgate Park, Edinburgh
2. Macaque at Apes Den, Gibraltar
3. Fox in Torry, Aberdeen
4. Short-eared owl at Donmouth, Aberdeen
