Our paper is out today!!! (not an April fool's day joke) Congrats to authors @azulsilva.bsky.social, @belalima-paiva.bsky.social, Ele Pronier, and mostly to the amazing scientist and human being who led this project @facuumm.bsky.social

Excited to share our new #preprint uncovering how early human forebrain is patterned.

Compared to mouse, human dorsoventral and anteroposterior telencephalon patterning is strikingly delayed, which is correlated with SHH and FGF signalling differences.

Really interesting from the Burgess stable — theta sweeps in entorhinal cortex show a dorsoventral gradient, with different spatial scales coordinated at different frequencies. Nice work @zilong-ji.bsky.social @neilburgess10.bsky.social 👏

Amazing evolutionary gene regulatory story about dorsoventral limb and fin patterning! Congratulations to all the team 🙌
We take for granted that our hands have two sides and can articulate in an endless number of ways. But what about a fish’s fin? Can a fish know something “like the back of its fin,” or have its future told with a fin palm reading? Check out this bluetorial to find out 👇🧪🧬🐟 doi.org/10.1101/2025...

Using live cell microscopy we showed that gill filaments form asymmetrically along the dorsoventral axis: dorsally, medial filaments emerge first and are longer; ventrally, lateral filaments form before medial ones. These early patterns predict adult gill architecture.

But one of the coolest thing about these types of 'homeotic genes' or morphogens is how conserved they are throughout evolutionary time, a reminder of ancient shared ancestries.

The genes that a horseshoe crab uses to form limbs are the same as those in human and squid.

We observed beautiful sequences of spiking activity during sleep in the « head-direction cortex » (aka post-subiculum), traveling along its dorsoventral axis - which maps onto the longitudinal axis of the hippocampus

Martina de Angelis (University of Bristol) shares fascinating research at #SLS26 studying how carpels are shaped, showing that dorsoventral patterning genes that shape other plant organs are also expressed during carpel morphogenesis, suggesting a partially conserved developmental program.
