I own a bunch of DOS games from GOG. Unfortunately, all of these are bundled with a Windows version of DOSBox only. I'd like to use a linux version. But which one?

Apparently there are two 'modern' versions of DOSBox; called "DOSBox-x" and "DOSBox Staging".

I'm wondering if anyone has any […]

DOSBox-X? its an open source updated version

It depends on the game but there are a few different forks of DOSBox that are usually easier to go with than the stock version of DOSBox. You might want to try DOSBox Staging or maybe DOSBox-X

This is also apparently how DOSBOX and SCUMMVM do their fullscreen modes.

None. I will have to suffer through some prehistoric DOSBox tech.

and to run a MAME emulator to play 1980s classic arcade games, NES games, Gameboy, Atari 2600, Coleco, Sega and of course Leisure Suit Larry in DosBox.

If the game is on GOG they sell it with dosbox already configured to work correctly

There is a wishlist on GOG but right now it’s abandonware. If you follow the link on the original post you can download a dosbox wrapped version.

Wozu also DOSBox unter OS/2?

Weil DOSBox Hardware […]

@karadoc staging is very light and all setup has to be done in dosbox conf file. Dosbox-x is much more heavy and let you change setup via menu located on the top of the window while playing... Very useful. Both are good.

Those aren't on NES but Xanadu has a Switch release; one of those EGGconsole ones that are untranslated but if I remember right the japanese version used English text- then Sorcerian I played the old MS-Dos release on DOSBox

the more I think about this the angrier I get

dosbox-x is great
qb64 is great

why would you even think about doing this if not for absolute, all-encompassing cognitive surrender

OK!

Emulated NES games and TIE Fighter through DOSBox.

A common trip-up is that DOSBox needs the game folder mounted as a drive before you run the exe. GOG also sells many DOS classics with DOSBox already set up, which saves the hassle.

Mixing genres and older picks is a solid way to run a club. Handy for a backlog too: GOG sells a lot of DOS classics with DOSBox already set up.

When I first played it on DosBox as a teen i DID find it really freaky. Something about the sound design and sprites
