New Mexico is making waves! 🎉

So proud to pass our Albuquerque Indian School land transfer and Downwinder bills out of committee unanimously this past week!

This is what getting it done for NM looks like!

Not too fond of the idea of being a Latter-Day Downwinder

For 80 years, Downwinders in the Tularosa Basin never got the justice they deserved after the first atomic bomb was tested at the Trinity Site.

Today, we are fighting to make sure every downwinder receives compensation through RECA and we never forget by passing H.R. 4290.

"All of society right now—all of our knowledge, data, lives, careers, and jobs—is effectively a “downwinder” of the AI companies’ testing and deployment of technologies they don’t fully understand and don’t care enough to constrain effectively."
Wondering why data centers are as unpopular as nuclear waste? It's not the data centers.

The problem is both more obvious and more fundamental: The daily lived experience of the AI boom sucks. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/ai-is-maki...
AI is making everything worse
The political problem isn't the data centers — it's that AI is a turd mountain looming over daily life.

There are serious consequences to being a "Downwinder" when it comes to nuclear testing. We've done it before, and the effects linger.

“The voices of those of us who have already suffered the devastating and ongoing effects of nuclear weapons must be integral to any discussion of this planet’s nuclear future,” writes Mary Dickson, a downwinder, in an op-ed.

This movie covers a subject personal to my family as my grandpa was a Downwinder. The bombs took his life and the memories I would have made with him.
The testing of the nuclear bombs in New Mexico created devestation, which hurt my family, that last today and the movie First We Bombed New Mexico tells those stories. Check out this piece of important and forgotten history.

if you look up details, just know it's as horrific as any other downwinder story. for instance? kids who visited the set had tumors growing in their mouths

agnes moorehead's death was actually what made people admit it was the movie bc she was known to be extremely healthy, no drinking or smoking

In her recent blog, Dr. Elizabeth McCLure describes her Kendall Fellowship project “Nuclear Weapons, Science, and Equity,” which “involves analyses of the legacy impacts of the US nuclear weapons industrial complex on health in and around the Hanford nuclear site in Washington State.”

The Hanford nuclear site closed decades ago, but community members are still waiting for recognition of its costs to their health.

My mom died of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She grew up in Southwest Utah in the 40’s and 50’s and there are stories that would shock most people about this country running tests of our nuclear capabilities in ways that harmed Americans. She was classified a “downwinder” and received compensation.

At the same time, good luck getting any support from Medicaid if you’re a poor downwinder who suddenly develops cancer.

Great news! Glad that indefatigable Trinity downwinder Tina Cordova is in Washington today to, hopefully, witness this moment. Now Republicans in the House—who scuttled the previous and more expansive RECA bill last December—need to do their job and pass this crucial and long overdue legislation.
BREAKING! RECA Senate passage assured! With 60 votes already (more to come), the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act will pass the body. Biden will sign if he gets the chance. The House needs to act to give benefits to those adversely impacted by US nuclear weapons testing, development & production.

Back when legislation actually something our government did, there were even reparations set up by Congress.

Just incredibly ignorant DOGE folks. (But I repeat myself)

As someone with roots in Southern Nevada and SE Washington, seems like a bad idea. Downwinder lawsuits are very winnable.
