“People with disabilities should not have to ‘politely’ request that businesses comply with a law that has been in effect for over three decades. Further, voluntary compliance is a myth.” Why ADA lawsuits are still necessary to enforce access, at DREDF:

DREDF believes that Section 504 protects transgender people with disabilities, including a gender dysphoria diagnosis. The disability community includes transgender people, and disability justice cannot be achieved without trans people.

🚨 The Dept. of Energy is quietly trying to gut building accessibility rules under Section 504.
This rollback would erase protections disabled activists fought decades to win.

Excellent statement from @dredf.bsky.social on Trump’s authoritarian attack on DC.

I appreciate the direct links both to his executive order calling for detention of people with mental health issues, and to last year’s Grants Pass ruling.

This is about removing “undesirables” from public space.

I also got to meet and make connections with some really great people from great orgs all over. Advocates for Trans Equality (A4TE) had a strong presence there, along with InterACT, and DREDF, and it was really good to make connections at those orgs.

The federal government has erased an important tool for enforcing our right to live in our communities. But it has not taken that right away.

DREDF and several organizations condemn this administration’s abandonment of disabled Americans.

6/ DREDF said it directly: there is no such thing as a good institution for disabled people. There is only loss of freedom, loss of choice, and loss of community. That sentence should be at the center of every conversation about this memo. dredf.org/we-belong-in...
