Me (to a girl): "Cool raptor tattoo."

Guy, talking over me: "Actually it's Velociraptor. Raptor just means any dinosaur with a hook claw."

Me: "You mean Dromaeosauridae? That's not an exclusive trait, there's also Troodontidae. Or were you under the impression that 'raptor' refers to 'Paraves'?"

A #fakemon lineage based on the Dromaeosauridae dinosaur group!
Thanks @drawpixie.bsky.social for the idea!

What #paleo fakemon would you like to see?

*in between ripping my bong* so all Dromaeosauridae are theropods, but not all theropods are Dromaeosauridae

Background Microraptor is known as the most significant example of extended feathering on the legs of a paravian, both fossil and modern. Its striking difference with most paravians contributes to the...

Next week I start a few things for Lyme Regis Fossil Festival so since I’m clearing the phone here’s one last video of the Wadhurst Clay display, based on the paper by @neilgostling.bsky.social @tetzoo.bsky.social and others referring to teeth from Tyrannosauroids, Spinosaurids and Dromaeosauridae

Hauptsächlich Dromaeosauridae wie der Velociraptor, Utahraptor oder Deinonychus. 🥰

I know I know I know that taxonomy is arbitrary, but I've been thinking for a while that Dromaeosauridae needs some splitting. If we follow South American workers in recognising Unenlagiidae, then I demand that it's time for Microraptoridae and Halszkaraptoridae at least :)

The Wealden has a large diversity of Theropods, including teeth from the Dromaeosauridae. In this case restored as a 3 metre long animal, Nuthetes or Vectiraptor being the inspiration and Deinonychus the print file. These feathered Theropods are a joy to paint up, and couldn’t resist a WWD homage

Unenlagiidae is also closely related to Dromaeosauridae, which is the family Velociraptor belongs to.

However, the growing consensus is that Unenlagiidae is more closely related to Avialans, which is the family that would go on to produce birds.

Anyway, back to Kank.
