A fun combination
Arsing about, feeding the Novation DrumStation V1 into the Elektron Octatrack mkII, with a bit of the OT’s DJEQ & compressor applied

In these pics: a Novation BassStation Keys (v1), Waldorf Pulse, Akai S2000, Yamaha CS1x, Casio CZ1000, Novation DrumStation & a cheap Zoom rackmount FX. Yamaha Mixer. Wilson guitar. I'm running Cubase on a 486 & monitoring via a Samson amp & JBL speakers. I've still got the Pulse & the JBL speakers

Me in my 'studio' in 1998(?). There's a sticker on my PC that says "Protect me from what I want".
Photo of a person sitting on a small chair in front of an old PC. There are keyboard and rackmount synthesisers and a mixer on and under a desk. Photo of a person standing in front of an old PC. There are keyboard and rackmount synthesisers and a mixer on and under a desk.

Working on a relentlessly joyful piece of music. My patrons at patreon.com/zoeblademusic can hear an early demo.
A screenshot of the track in question, "21 Jewels", shows when various parts arrive, play a repetitive part of the music, and depart again, mostly coming together at the end for a big climax. The music itself is all composed in Reason. The track names hint at possible instrumentation, including clones of the Syncussion, SH-101, and Solina String Ensemble, along with an actual TX81Z. The whole thing's composed in just NN-XT for DrumStation samples, and 7 instances of SubTractor, explaining why my demos tend to sound somewhat like chiptunes.

50% discount on our Bandcamp discography this #808day. The tenuous link being some tracks feature 808 sounds, although they were all from our beloved Novation Drumstation (the essential bit of studio kit in the 90s, for those of us too skint to afford real TRs)

4 compilations, consisting of 81 tracks we recorded between 1997 & 2002, for grand total of £2. Expect lo-fi techno, electro, ambient, IDM, house & that

The rack is coming together (after about 2 hours of arsing about with cables to get rid of a really loud ground loop hum). Have - possibly - finally settled on the 3 fx units. And, yes, that space 4 u’s down is reserved for the Novation DrumStation
My studio rack atm: ART Multiverb Alpha SE Alesis Quadraverb GT Digitech Studio Quad V2 Akai CD3000i Behringer MDX2100 Composer Underneath it is a Elektron Analog Four mkII. If the cage nuts in the rack don’t hold, that A4 is fucked

Drum Station #2 has arrived. Still no idea if I should sell it or keep it as a backup for the one already in the rack. Maybe I’ll start a mad midlife crisis hobby of collecting Drum Stations
Novation DrumStation….the one with yellow markings….not sure if that makes it V1 or V2. I’m increasingly amazed at how these 30 year old rack units have lasted so long without any issues. A lot of more modern gear certainly doesn’t feel like it’ll survive for decades

Had to shelve the Behringer 808/909 clones until I one day another Soundcraft desk. Maybe I should replace them with a Novation Drumstation (which I still rate very highly)

Apparently people would like to see what my studio looks like. It looks like this.
In this very wide angle photo, I'm in front of a small wall of gear. An Atari ST runs MIDI sequencer Sweet Sixteen. An Akai S1000's below it, and a Korg microKEY in front of it. There are Behringer clones of a Moog modular, Roland System-100M, TR-606, VP-330, Dimension D, and Solina String Ensemble, along with an actual Doepfer A-100, Yamaha TX81Z, various cute little half-rack Boss effects, an Alesis MicroVerb III, Novation DrumStation, Kenton MIDI to CV converter, and Roland JV-1080. A few mostly-microscale Lego models are dotted about the place. On the wall, there's a Lilly Wachowski self-portrait of a cute duckling resplendent in a fiery hellscape. It seems to catch the feeling of being personally happy, especially as a result of transitioning, during these "uncertain times". All in all, it's a pretty cosy small room to live most of my life in. A closer look at that System-100M clone. In the background, you can also see that Nina's custom made for me two little boxes, Ringo and the Switch Insect. A closer look at the Moog modular / 900 series clone. As with the System-100M, I've mounted it in a custom walnut case, making it look more resplendent than it otherwise would. A closer look at the Atari ST's monitor, this time showing another MIDI sequencer, C-LAB Creator. There's also a lamp, and for inspiration, a copy of Autechre's Incunabula.
