The Thermo Fisher situation keeps getting worse. We've now collected 450+ problematic images presented as verification data in TF's antibody catalog. This includes:

DupyliCate - mining, classifying, and characterizing gene duplications
Paralogs, copies of a gene, form an important basis for novelty during evolution. Analysis of such gene duplications is important to understand the emergence of novel traits during evolution. DupyliCa...

Did you know that gene duplications play a crucial role in the evolution of plants and their ability to adapt to extreme environments? 🌿🌍

I went for a nice swim (60 laps, just under 40 min), finished my peer review, did an interview with a journalist, and checked some papers for image duplications. Now I am ready for the weekend!

We identified segmental duplications in genomes from 117 vertebrate species (thanks to @vertebrategenomes.bsky.social ). We describe the properties and evolution of segmental duplications.
Genomes From 117 Vertebrate Species Reveal Rapidly Evolving Segmental-Duplication Landscapes
Abstract. Segmental duplications are major drivers of evolutionary innovation; yet, their dynamics across vertebrates remain poorly understood. Here, we id

Calling all OrthoFinder users!

We’ve just released GLADE, a tool to infer gene gains, losses, duplications, and ancestral genomes across a phylogeny.

GLADE runs directly on OrthoFinder results.

Reconstruction of the human amylase locus reveals ancient duplications seeding modern-day variation
Previous studies suggested that the copy number of the human salivary amylase gene, AMY1, correlates with starch-rich diets. However, evolutionary analyses are hampered by the absence of accurate, seq...

Again, is it criminal if another scientist (like me) points out duplications in a 20-year old paper?
Are you accusing me of committing a crime if I do that?
Just trying to understand your reasoning.

How many duplications does it take to get a paper retracted?
@wiley.com's Liver International thinks that 10 duplications are still not enough, and issued a correction, just deleting the offending figure 6.
Unbelievable.

Whole genome duplications over 450 million years ago enabled the emergence of different kinds of brain cells 🧠

These cellular innovations are shared across vertebrates - from primitive fish to mammals - and form the basis of the sophisticated brains seen today 👇
