Duskbirds #31 | “Stardust”

This one shows Elsium instead of the usual Duskbirds (you can tell by the horns and leaf tail!)

One of my "duskbirds" chasing a wisp.

Rough 2d frame animation to practice some basics - only a test and not intended to be finished. Learned a lot with this one that I want to apply to my next attempt, which I DO hope to be more finished. :D

Managed to mostly finish the layouts for Duskbirds vol 1 & 2 yesterday (text and deciding how to organize the comics took the most time) - hoping I can bang out all the art edits today

Here's one I just reformatted (vol 2). #15, from 2023 - things seem the same or worse now, eh

Had a few conversations this month where "The Endless Forest" came up, which reminded me of this older artwork - it's two of my duskbirds drawn in an Endless Forest-inspired way, with the symbols on the forehead and halo

Does anyone remember that game? Did you play it?

Speaking of books, my other project "Duskbirds Comics" is currently available at Paper Pushers, a zine pop-up in downtown Seattle! Thank you if you picked one up already!

Many thanks to @mellific.bsky.social for this photo and including Duskbirds alongside so many wonderful zines!

Info in replies!

Thinking about Duskbirds, I consider The Harbinger's Path my "first" comic, as it's the first I was able to draw in that more traditional comic page style. (Duskbirds is a comic strip or "gag" comic)

I've wondered how much practicing with my Duskbirds "side-project sketch-comic" helped w/ Harbinger

Potential cover mock-ups for volume 2 - I like how it gives me an excuse to use this illustration of Elsium. I've always enjoyed how distressed he looks in it, haha. It seems to fit Volume 2's theme.

Volume 1 is "lighthearted comics"

I have a few of Duskbirds Vol. 2 left, and if I reprint Vol. 1 in the future, they'll be added to this new "Printed Comics" gallery that's now up (Duskbirds zines are toward the bottom)

The page has info about what's in each book, how they were printed, dimensions, etc.!

Look at those birds! I can't not laugh at them

Initially planned only on the blue shrimp, as I'd been looking for an amusing card holder. Found the birds later, and friends went, "It's on-theme for Duskbirds!" and I didn't need much convincing after that

Learned Duskbirds Comics Vol. 1 sold out at the "Paper Pushers" zine pop-up in Seattle - thank you to all who visited!

Those were my last copies, I don't know when/if I'll reprint it - I hope you enjoy reading if you have one!

Thanks so much again and I hope you enjoyed the event!

Dilemma dee-lemma - forgot my friend suggested I also apply to a smaller con last year. Recently surprised I was accepted, but it's sooner than I recalled (early April)

I planned Harbinger's schedule around Fanime (late May), friend said Duskbirds fits the April con better anyway. Indie comics con-

Attempting some additional materials for the Apr small indie comics con so I don't look too out of place with my lone 2 Duskbirds zines lol

Harbinger's still in production so I'm thinking of giving away postcards, front w/ cover+info and back showing a page - does one pg work better than the other?

Panel crop from an upcoming #duskbirds page that I thought looked a little amusing on its own

Lol Duskbirds makes me ruminate - I also started with editing volume 2, the "introspective" comics. Which could just as easily be called "emo comics," haha

Fairly finished with vol 2's edits - on to volume 1! The "lighthearted" batch, which contains cheerful, silly comics, to balance the emo

Adding slight art touch-ups, mainly to earlier comics. Nothing major, just attempts to have them read a little more clearly

Such as adding outlines here - this panel is from 2023, about the Apple Vision Pro. That tech died, but it could just as easily be about genAI now. We have learned nothing!

Took more photos! Here's a page from Volume 1: "Lighthearted Comics" - #23, "Dishes" (which I should go do right about now)

-I'm trying out formatting a small, mini-zine with a selection of Duskbirds comics. Currently thinking of splitting them into two mini-zines - one with "lighthearted" themes, the other with "introspective" themes

It's trickier than formatting Harbinger. Because I know what Harbinger is, while--

I'll have Duskbirds Comics Vol 1 & 2 at the PLCAF Comic Arts Fest this Saturday. If you're in the area, stop by and say hello!

I'll also have The Harbinger's Path postcards to give away! Come see Trahearne and Malyck! :D

If you are or will be in the Seattle area, Duskbirds Vol. 1 will be available here this summer! I think they just closed submissions, but might reopen later if you want to keep an eye out! It looks like a wonderful project & space!

I should be shipping my zines there later this week :D
exciting news! some pals and i are opening a little zine bookstore in downtown Seattle, and we'd love to stock YOUR work!!! we are doing an 80/20 consignment split, and you can submit works here: forms.gle/Kt9VrGZWT7Qh...

Aw thanks Kyris, that's so cool to hear! I use this brush sometimes for comics (it's just a round brush with all the settings turned off), and started using it more in the animations after the Duskbirds one - it's oddly been easier to draft with it, and made me want to try a drawing with it here!
