Oh man. That reminds me of my egolf.....great ev. Wish we had it here

It’s a shame they never made an eGolf…

Went EV in 2013 with an eGolf when VW had to buy back my so-called “clean diesel” Audi A3. We run the whole house and charge 2 EVs with solar panels for the minimum access charge of $16/mo. In gloomy Oregon!

As a eGolf driver since 2015, I don’t miss dealing with sticker shock like that!

...wenn man in der Familie kratzt und 'nen Tausender mehr zusammenbekommt hat man schnell die eGolf-Klasse <80.000km erreicht.

We have the vw egolf. The range is under 100 miles, but it goes back and forth to work, stores, etc. I love the power you get immediately from an ev when you hit the "gas pedal"(battery pedal? 😂). They're fun to drive. Our neighbor has the BMW i3, which is another little ev. It works to get around.

things start to get pretty interesting in the low $10k range for a used EV. Lots of BMW i3s, a VW eGolf, a Fiat 500e... none of these have a ton of range, but if all you are doing is commuting to and from work, running errands, and charging at night, these could be good options.

Same.. had a egolf and a id4. Only recalls had me take it to dealership. Except for the egolf (never took it in for anything). Both were great. Only reason I didnt buy out my id4 lease cuz of the navigation subscription part.

I own a VW eGolf, which was simply converted by VW as a compliance vehicle. They didn’t even change where the fuel pump was in the Golf. They just ripped the innards out and dropped a battery in and some more electrical connections. Way too bad that they haven’t kept the Egolf. Nicer than the ID3

Echt? Geil!

I don't see them too often in Portland. I'm much more likely to see an old eGolf or original 500e... but when I do see a Cybertruck I make sure they see me giving them a thumbs down 👎🤣

It really depends on the range each car has. Our vw egolf can't go that far and is used to commute for work only. The Ioniq 5 has a 305 mile range, so we stopped twice to charge on that trip. It was mid summer, so we didn't want to risk doing only 1 stop. I felt bad seeing a few gas cars that over

I'll never buy a Tesla. Yuck! I refuse to give Musk money.

We did buy a used VW eGolf for $10k though. Plenty of other electric cars available.

I've been driving EVs for over a quarter century and owned them for over a decade. When the first EV I purchased, an eGolf, was totaled by a distracted driver, I grabbed the Kia Niro HEV its first month on the market. I sold it at 85k Mi, original brakes, zero issues to buy the IONIQ 5...

Where did you find a $10k vw egolf? An individual or dealer? What year and mileage? How long have you had it? Has it needed any repairs or tires after purchasing?
September 14, 2026 at 1:52 AM
That's not accounting for poor battery performance in winter, which drops the range to ~83 miles on a NEW one, which would drop further to 40-50 miles at the age I would be buying this theoretical eGolf. And the drop in range would be there forever. Replace the battery? Starts losing range.

🤦‍♀️

Except I math good.

If I purchase a VW eGolf, taking into account loan interest, cost of ownership including maintenance and replacing parts, fuel/electricity cost, etc. I will never break even. If we don't consider replacing the battery, it takes 22 years...versus just keeping the car I have now.

Who said you need to spend $30k?

We bought a used vw egolf for $10k. There are multiple options. Lots people can do.

My husband uses the vw egolf to commute for work. It has been great.
September 13, 2026 at 8:54 PM
Look at used ones.

A vw egolf is around $10k.
