Was explaining to my dad about the note-taking app Obsidian, and he was like "oh so it's like the modern day Emacs" and sends me a link about an Emacs zettelkasten plugin
and I hate that I think he's pretty spot-on with that association

This is not a random example, one of the canonical early emacs stories is about an office secretary at MIT making doing exactly this. In modern emacs you can go from using a feature to seeing its code to editing its behavior in astonishingly few keystrokes.
