A groundbreaking new technology is poised to transform the way people interact with their devices. Unvoiced, a novel unvoiced user interface, enables users to silently communicate with their earables using subtle jaw motions. This innovative system translates low-frequency jaw signals into high-frequency mel spectrograms, capturing nuanced speech characteristics and allowing for accurate interactions. In experiments with 19 users across four tasks, Unvoiced achieved an impressive 94% task completion rate and a 9% word error rate for over 90% of phrases. The technology's ability to maintain accuracy in noisy conditions is particularly significant, with a 90% task completion rate even when ambient noise was present. Unvoiced has the potential to revolutionize device interactions, especially in situations where speaking out loud is not feasible or desirable. By providing an accessible interface for individuals who struggle with traditional voice-based interactions, this technology can improve inclusivity and accessibility in various applications, including virtual reality, in-vehicle interactions, smart home devices, and other IoT systems.
