#eartipping
Once again begging people to learn about the reasons for the ear tipping of most TNR cats instead of complaining that "it's cruel" or "there must be a better way". Stop whining and start learning and volunteering if you're so concerned about these cats! www.alleycat.org/resources/fe...

Eartipping is the best option to cause the least amount of harm and trauma to *everyone* involved. You want to prevent eartipping? GET YOUR FUCKING CATS FIXED. Domestic cats are an invasive species in North America and colonies are a problem HUMANS made by irresponsible animal stewardship.

Cat rescue org workers love cats more than anything, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. It's expensive and difficult and often sad.

The eartipping to ID cats who do not require further human involvement is really the least invasive thing possible. People have THOUGHT ABOUT THIS.

People new to #TNR may ask the question: Why do some outdoor cats have part of their ear missing? This is the perfect opportunity to share some knowledge about eartipping!

So what is an eartip anyways? Boardwalk Cat Bleu is modeling!

We're on the ground doing #TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) right now! Today, we kicked off our collaboration with Animal Rescue League of Iowa to provide spay and neuter, vaccinations, eartipping, and more to community cats like Ginger and Misty in the Des Moines, Iowa, area.

Great work, Colorado! Governor Jared Polis signed into law a bill to create a formal #TNR program for community cats. 🎉 🎉 🎉

Not only will funding be available for trapping, spay/neuter, vaccination, and eartipping--it will also support TNR training and even mobile clinics!

Besides, it's universal - eartipping as a sign of neutering is used in India, in South Africa, Europe, you name it.

Eartipping always makes me think of audio distortion

Eartipping lets you know if a stray/feral is spayed/neutered.

If you have any problem with that, take that problem and spend that energy on rescuing as many cats and dogs as you can from kill shelters, or even better, find your local puppy mills and shut them down.

Eartipping is required for TNR. It allows us to see at a distance that the cat is already fixed. It's done under anesthesia and immediately cauterized. It doesn't affect the cat's quality of life, and saves them being transported and anesthetized again unnecessarily.

Eartipping is fine.

Why don't these people put their energy into rescuing cats and dogs from kill shelters.

Or shutting down puppy mills.

THAT is where the true horror is.

Eartipping is an effective and universally accepted method to identify a spayed or neutered community cat. It is a surgical procedure performed under anesthesia by a veterinarian that removes the distal one-quarter of a cat's left ear in an adult and proportionally smaller in a kitten.

When we trapped a farm cat ( dumping grounds ) to help the humane society because we were close to the farm, a cat that was already spayed had been prepped for surgery because of no eartipping.

A lot of trouble and expense because the cat had no id or markings. 🤷

The eartipping on both of them also was pretty massive almost the top third of their ears. I’ve never seen ears tipped as deeply as theirs are.

lol There's no way you're not trolling. Anyone with two brain cells to bang together can just google "Why would you ear tip a cat" and get the goddamn answer in under three seconds.

I should mention, at the time we didn't know eartipping was a sign of a TNR program - we thought he'd been caught by someone in the neighborhood who tortured him. He was SHOOK when he got home.

I’ve had followers unfollow me because they were/are anti-eartipping even after hearing about the good reason it’s done to TNR cats. I don’t like that it has to happen but I know of no other solution that matches or is better than ear-tipping.
