Increasingly cold and wintry easterlies on AI ECMWF model almost too seamless to be believed!

South-easterlies and the floodgates opened! Yellow-browed Warblers in every geo, no less than 31 around, 11 being my personal tally! Scarcities all over the island throughout the day, topped off by finding this lovely Red-flanked Bluetail on Ward Hill @fairislebirdobs.bsky.social

Given October easterlies have been made illegal down the East Coast, have to settle for a palette other than 'Sibe'. Six Bearded Tits (very!) high over @flamboroughbird.bsky.social today - dropped into cover crop before disappearing back into the stratosphere and moving off south. Far from annual.

A nice spell of easterlies forecast Wednesday onwards to come off the back of the high pressure drifting over us currently, nice southerly element to it could bring some interesting migrants with it?

Hoping for some easterlies during our week birding off the Flamborough coast next week.

29 Sept. A despondent tramp around Torness in F6 south-easterlies resulted in 2 Blue Tit & 2 Skylark! Called into Skateraw not expecting anything but then a smart RF Bluetail popped up unto a branch and sat looking at me from 5 metres. Magic! @birdinglothian.bsky.social #BirdingLothian

An extraordinary hour watching this pukka bird: part Harrier, part 1w Little Gull, part piebald Kestrel. A new arrival (from Netherlands?) w/the easterlies or is it a Broads lurker?

Atlantic mobility quickly running out of steam into next weekend on 12z UKMO.

Note also Siberian high showing signs of retrogression backing west towards Scandinavia this idea is not isolated. The next chase we look for chance of colder easterlies in final third of January. (1/2)

Strong easterlies and rain produced a decent arrival with 60 birds caught in the traps including a rather nice male Whinchat (nfy), a Whitethroat (nfy), 30 Willow Warblers, 5 Chiffs, 8 Blackcaps, 12 Goldfinches (1 control), a Wheatear and 2 Robins

Thankyou overnight rain and south easterlies! This gorgeous pair of Curlew Sandpipers (male and female on size) are on Black Hole Marsh this morning, with 11 Dunlin. My earliest autumn record of the species here. Also Wigeon and juv Med Gull #ukbirding

Strong easterlies produced big seas & bracing temperatures @flamboroughbird.bsky.social … but also birds. 12 Tundra Bean & 48 White-fronted Geese the highlight along with a Blue Fulmar, adult Little Gull & 1st winter Caspian Gull.

#Gibraltar - 09/07 - this morning's gorgeous #Poniente #sunrise captured by MeteoGib follower Stuart Beattie - a return to Westerlies at last after a 10-day long spell of Easterlies/ Levante.

20 years ago today! Imagine easterlies with rain mid August these days...
Haven’t I seen you on the telly?

This photo popped up on my Facebook memories today … an edit of the South Gare European Roller from August 2006.

Really pleased to find a Red-throated Pipit on North Ronaldsay today.

Other highlights today being Turtle Dove, Lapland Bunting and Yellow-browed Warbler.

Nice to see that the Easterlies are producing birds.

The recent run of easterlies has been a wee bit underwhelming for migrant birds, so I was delighted to find this Wryneck in the driftwood stick outside the kitchen window this evening. #BirdingScotland
