An Eastern Hognose Snake (Heterodon platirhinos) ! This is our second sighting ever, and it made me do a happy dance! Common name comes from their pointed nose. Non-venomous. Mimics a cobra snake by flattening out its head! #easternhognosesnake #heterodonplatirhinos
A close up displaying the pointed nose of an Eastern Hognose Snake. A photo displaying how an Eastern Hognose Snake flattens its head to mimic a cobra snake. From a distance, this looks like a black snake based on the colorization of this snake. Eastern Hognose Snakes come in varying colors and patterns.

When I began to get up from shooting a deer skull I had found, I noticed this snake about 3 feet from me.
