Today is apparently eBirds “big day.” I only got in about 15 minutes at the breakfast table, and it was rainy, but I was very excited for the return of my flicker! Not seen since last year! And for an angry hummingbird (“what’s this seed crap!”) and a couple of warbling migrants #ABirdfromtheLord
Today is world wildlife day! If we can seek to find the magic of the biodiversity in our communities, we can educate ourselves on how to help the natural world. #worldwildlifeday

On days when I get sad or grumpy lately I like going to check out the eBirds hotspots around where we'll be staying in Trinidad and goggling at the Extremely Cool Birds we'll see in less than two months 😀😀

Im always lazy about putting my sightings on ebirds but they few tines i have it was really helpful in clearing confusion. How do you do it while travelling and maybe out of internet connectivity?

Thanks Alan, they do look very similar! eBirds was kinder and did not describe the willow warbler as chunky. 😁

we have lots of them along our coast! i love watching them. they seem to be here year round though ebirds says they are migratory

Another great photo. I was curious, so I just did a search on ebirds and it turns out they are found west of me as well, closer to the coast. Thanks to your image I am going in search of them soon. :)

What a lovely unexpected visitor. I’ve had the same thought about eBirds. August is also a difficult birding month where I am, and I think the heat drives them into hiding. I’ve noticed I have the best luck if I go out early or just before sunset.

On my birthday, I decided to drive 1.5 hours to go birding. The whole place was filled with blackbirds but nobody else. I see on ebirds later for that afternoon that someone saw like 40+ species and it was packed LOL..ugh.

For the Botanics, the birdplaces list is suspiciously identical to ebirds "likely species based on 358 records in a 20km by 20km area" which the ebird app defaults to. As birdplaces is user generated content, maybe if the author don't provide a list it defaults to ebird?

Oh, their singing are so complex, various, unique and beautiful, so cheerful 🥰
There're no birds familiar to them(Agelaius family) in Eurasia,
so it's precious, interesting, exciting and wonderful for me to know about them 😆

It was cold and windy but very pretty! Unfortunately, it started raining on us so we didn't get to do as much beach exploration as I was hoping, but the winter birding there is pretty great - the ebirds lists always make me very jealous.

yes, it was. -7 when I left our house. Tooka few photos. Still -5 when I arrived home.
fed our cats, th ebirds, raked & set our fire.. started it
didn't get above freezing all day
spouse had shower to warm up.
in front of fire now.
