I wish that there was a longform article about Livingston Parish, which would go into these issues and how they are tied to the present moment. Its population boomed in the '90s because white folks moved to its "good" (read: white) school system as EBRP desegregated. And it was ALREADY a KKK hotbed.

I wonder why it is being prioritized? I think we can take it as a given that Berkeley is looking to offload some of the cost of maintaining the marina to another agency, as I think the City currently administrates it solely, not EBRP or other org. Not sure if this is part of the ferry deal.

We were the orphans of the regiment. During my elementary school years they moved us FOUR times, to all kinds of strange places, hours spent on buses long and short. Anywhere they could find to squeeze us in. We apparently had some budget, but in EBRP schools that ain't saying much.

White Flight from the EBRP schools has been happening as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, the desegregation order involved forced busing across town (I went to elementary school in the inner city, a move which involved bus transfers). But pay attention to the quote here: "our" children.
