The layout of the structural equation model (SEM) in this study. We have root biomass, plant nitrogen status and substrate oxygen availability estimated from a combination of plant traits. Denitrification enhancement expresses the increase in denitrification by vegetation presence compared to an unvegetated plot, thus accounting for environmental conditions.
