Also, they do in fact go in-depth on the Covenant religion (including in-universe theological debates about whether the Forerunners were always gods, only became gods after firing the Halos, or also turned their past selves into gods after firing the Halos): daybreak.miraheze.org/wiki/Covenan...

India was an important component of the Greek imagination.

In the Greek world, while the Hellenes were the westernmost of the civilised lands, India was the easternmost edge of the ecumene.

ecumene - note / in Greek and Roman usage, it meant the known, civilized world as opposed to unknown or “barbarian” territories / in religious contexts, it came to mean the whole community of the church.

ecumene - n / the inhabited world — the parts of Earth that are permanently lived in and used by humans / [origin] from Greek oikouménē (inhabited earth), from Latin oecumene / [note] the uninhabited or temporarily inhabited regions were often called the “anecumene”

The implication either goes over her head, or she ignores it.

"The Ecumene has existed for a number of millennia, yes. Some of the others have too, in some form or another..." Her voice twists uncomfortably.

"The Humans and the San'Shyuum are very different now."
“Oh! You’re people, they’re a…”

P’Kida pauses for a few moments.

He doesn’t want to use the typical and possibly offensive term of ‘fallen’.

“…ancient empire?”
Well, we had. Even species that were gone had records made of them. Although, they weren't easy to find. I often had to recruit a Haruspis to help me find it all.

But... things are incredibly different now.

One billion Europeans and I don't care if it's done through more immigration or restoring economic-cultural ecumene with North Africa, Near East and even as far as India (now that'd be 3 billion Afro-Eurasians).

I just like how woker of ancients perceived known world as one shared community, okay?
my dream america looks a lot like the "one billion americans" thing yglesias briefly pushed. vastly more people, with many more cities as big as new york and los angeles, all inked together by bullet trains

layoffs are the greatest threat to the ecumene

The archaeological evidence suggests that ancient communities in the Northern Horn of Africa were active participants in a wider network of exchange and contributed to the development of a shared Red Sea ecumene.

What role does Pakistan play in the post-war Middle East? 🇵🇰 As the sole nuclear power in the "Islamic Ecumene," Islamabad offers the hard-power umbrella the Gulf desperately needs.

The US-Iran war has shattered the Middle East's balance of power. As US hegemony fades, a new "R-4" alliance—Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, & Pakistan—is rising to reshape the Islamic Ecumene.

NO!

Even if I am not fond of what their presence means, they are incredibly important to the Ecumene.
So get rid of them? No more visits. Uh, you’re welcome.

I think about this specific part in Cryptic a lot. Like what madman in the Ecumene came up with the idea to tilt whole galaxies???

Nubian monarchs, envoys, and ordinary pilgrims traveled across the Mediterranean world.

They participated in global political processes and became an integral part of the Byzantine ecumene until the late Middle Ages.

There's nothing wrong with the Mantle! Or, the Ecumene!

...

Unless you count how [stuffy] the Councilors can be.
I meant less you specifically, and more everything you are apart of and adhere to.
How?

I'm, still, only a First form and I made a new Peacemaker model recently. Although, it still needs testing...

(My background is some experience in the international ecumene. Protestant church bodies have yet to learn this basic fact. It is hard to learn because it boosts self-importance so much to imagine oneself as „partner“ of the Pope. But once the pope is on the stage, everyone else is subaltern.)

It is a responsibility that we earned. Through our work and wisdom we fought hard to carry on the work of our creators. Few others were a suitable option, and beneath us all those within the Ecumene thrived!

Well, I don't decide who lives and dies. If anyone must, it's the Council.
