It’s important to note that social stories are meant to explain confusing social situations to children and can help to model and support expected behaviour.

They are not meant to “control” a child’s behaviour.

Even if they read an article about universal design strategies that a therapist sends to them, classroom teachers are NOT therapists.

Thank you for coming to my #EdTalk.

A child sitting in the corner of a classroom with a colouring book all day while the rest of their peers learn actual curriculum is NOT inclusion.

Simply sharing the same physical space is not enough.

Pssssst…

It’s possible to be trauma-responsive AND still have high expectations for behaviour and academics in schools.

Thank you for coming to my #EdTalk.

This is your annual reminder that the boy in Nova Scotia was called homophobic slurs because he challenged traditional gender norms by wearing pink. The story has been watered down by school boards to make it more “palatable”. Thank you for coming to my #EdTalk.

Children in #OntEd don’t schedule their mental health crises for when a Child and Youth worker has assigned hours.

I appreciate the fact that Doug wants me to stop paying for my own markers, but we also need funding for consistent support for vulnerable kids.

Thank you for coming to my #EdTalk.

“Remembering our why” as educators is not going to prevent a nonverbal student with ASD from running out of the school into the street.

Gratitude journaling and mindfulness are not replacements for trauma therapy.

My bio says I'm hyperactive on LinkedIn.

This is presently a lie due to my ongoing health issues

However I hope to deliver the odd #EDtalk here now and again

Every day in #OntEd staff are asked to put an accommodation into place like “provide hand over hand support” while also being asked to follow a safety plan that says “stay more than an arm’s reach away from this student at all times.”

Thank you for coming to my #EdTalk.

I can’t be the only one here who knows the slang definition for skeet… #EDtalk
I don't understand "skeet" it's a play on Tweet... Do we want to do that?

Sky pronounced "SKEE" (no T) is how I'm doing it

Bridget Phillipson on Radio 2 today talking about A-Level results brilliantly demonstrating the difference between Education Secretaries who arrive by cabinet reshuffles and those who work as the shadow minister for three years before taking the job.

Night and day.

Stuck in the middle again. And I don't know how to get from point C to point D to point E. I can write D, but getting there from C stumps me. And getting the end of D to line up with E seems unlikely.

Thank you for coming to my EdTalk.
