#efficient
Remember this one?

“Humans aren’t very efficient movers—until you put us on a bicycle, when we become some of the most energy-efficient land travelers in the animal kingdom.”

The most efficient travellers are us on bikes.

If I could simplify this thread, the tldr: securitization and invulnerability depend heavily on eliminating the connection, trust relationships, mutual reliance that make things more efficient.

I've started to become a little more efficient at drawing animations, so now I can make these silly things in a short time.

i love being efficient, is the thing

i like being light, and fast, and strong, and clever, and smooth

e.g. i make a LOT of games in not very much time

i am mother fucking productive

its just WILD to say that getting marginal gains from burying toxic waste in your own backyard is "efficient"

I've previously proposed an "efficient polling hypothesis" (riffing on the efficient markets hypothesis). It is: "Among pollsters who sincerely try to correct for past polling errors by modifying their methods, the polling error expected value is zero, and thus the direction is unpredictable."
A lot of talk in the next 2 weeks about polling accuracy. I urge analysts to stay close to the widely recognized facts. Polls are no less generally accurate than in earlier eras. There was significant polling bias in 2016, 2020, and 2024, but not in the Trump-era midterms: 2018 and 2022. See thread.
The 2024 AAPOR Task Force on polling accuracy collected a really thorough set of polls and checked them for legitimacy. See Figure 2.1.1 on page 16. The light lines are polling bias-levels toward Democrats. The solid lines are the levels of absolute/random error.

OpenAI, a company famously efficient with hardware, says we’re wasting RAM
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says having RAM in personal computers is a ‘terrible’ use of limited resources and that it would be better utilized in data centers

"From a global perspective it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their computer"

How I sleep knowing my 32GB of RAM is also taking a nice little rest from a long day of playing games from 2008 and opening emails, instead of maximizing efficient usage in one of Sam Altman's AI data centers poisoning people in Utah or something.
