Coming off their chaotic End of The Century album, produced by Phil Spector, the band wanted Steve Lillywhite to handle the reins on this one. Their lable, Sire Records, wanted Graham Gouldman -- the bassist and primary songwriter for the band 10cc to produce. It could've been a disaster but Gouldman delivered some layered vocals and crisp guitar while not losing the Ramones' legendary urgency and crassness.

It's produced by long-time collaborator Bill Ham and marked the first time Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and Dusty Hill began experimenting with synthesizers, quirky studio shit and unusual guitar processing. The lyrics got a little out there, too, with plenty of double entendres and absurdity perfect for the MTV crowd.
