Ghost

--this seems like quite an important question, because it seems to imply that Elderbug and Zote are in fact Siblings to the Knight. (Also, where was the Knight before returning to Hallownest, and why?)

Something that the Hollow Knight lore never answers afaik is why do Elderbug and Zote look like they're the same species as the Hollow Knight?
Like, I know the out of universe reason is that these were likeyl all very early characters before ANY of the world and story was formed, but in-universe--

(1/4) To Bind Our Echoes That We May Be Whole
A Hollow Knight Fancomic

Chapter 11: Mask Maker, Mask Maker, Make Me A Mask

#HollowKnight #Silksong
A multi-panel black and white comic featuring Hornet, the Pale King, and Mask Maker from Hollow Knight. The chapter opens in the middle of a conversation between Hornet and Hallownest's Mask Maker. Hornet proposes creating a new mask for Ghost, comparing the transformation to the Pale King's shedding of his Wyrm body, which the Mask Maker initially rejects, believing that she lacks the power to bind the Lord of Shades. He then realizes that this is meant as an offer rather than a trap, and questions her motives. Mask Maker: So she has learned its fate and now would see it undone. Impossible, impossible… no more reversible than death a transformation of such scale. Hornet: Nay Maker. Not undone, but remade, as our sire before, to walk again among mortal bugs. Mask Maker: To follow in the tread of the Wyrm? But the void has no shell to shed. Hornet: And so I shall forge their mask anew. Mask Maker: Is it vanity or madness which drives you to eclipse even the Wyrm’s great folly? To believe your nascent strength enough to bind the Lord of Shades? Mask Maker: No… you propose inanity far beyond a simple snare. You would entreat the God of Gods to cede its power willingly. Hornet: I will pay whatever price you ask. Mask Maker: By duty I am compelled: For this kingdom’s faceless, I shall provide. So I charge you only answer me in truth: Why? A multi-panel black and white comic featuring Hornet, the Knight (called ghost), the Radiance, the Hollow Knight (called Hollow), and the Shade Lord. Hornet explains her motives: her belief that Ghost's ascension was not motivated by a desire for power, but to free Hollow without killing them. She expresses gratitude, and admits that she doesn't know whether they would even want to come back. Hornet: My sibling… was meant to be nothing. One failed vessel among thousands damned to that abyssal hatch-grave. Hornet: They owed no duty to kingdom or crown. Less, to the blood that so cruelly betrayed them. Hornet: Yet still they answered that desperate call from beyond the waste, seeking not recompense but to render aid. Though I know not the mechanism of their ascension, I know its cause. It was no bid for power but a desperate defiance of their fated path, to lay at last the past to rest and see freed our birth-cursed sibling by other means than death. Hornet: Their gambit cost me dearly… But their victory gifted me both future and family… and for that… I am grateful. Hornet: Perhaps they are wholly satisfied with this end, and it is self-conceit to presume otherwise. Perhaps it is an offer made in vain. A multi-panel black and white comic featuring Hornet, the Knight (called Ghost, Grimmchild, Weaverlings, Elderbug, the Shade Lord, and the Mask Maker from Hollow Knight. Hornet continues her explanation, stating her believe that they are and were kind, that there are people still waiting for them to come home, and that she believes she has the power to at least offer them the chance to return. The Mask Maker, seemingly satisfied with her answer, jumps straight to business, explaining that she needs three things: a mask, a seal, and a focus. Hornet expresses confusion at the mention of a focus, to which the Mask Maker explains it necessary to isolate Ghost from the legion that comprises the Shade Lord. Hornet: But regardless, I must offer… because they were kind, and I have cause to believe them kind still. Because they made a home of Hallownest and it eagerly awaits them yet. Hornet: I must offer because I might succeed, where others failed to try. Hornet: … Mask Maker: What you propose is a construct of three: a mask to anchor the soul; a seal to maintain the void; and a focus to define the self. Hornet: The mask and seal I anticipated, the focus I did not. Mask Maker: It is redundant for most, even a faceted soul like yours, but the Lord of Shades is plural by nature. To bring to the fore the sibling you seek, you must remind it once more of who it was. A multi-panel black and white comic featuring Hornet, the Pale King, and Mask Maker from Hollow Knight.Hornet asks the Mask Maker how she might create the focus, to which the Mask Maker states that he does not know and encourages Hornet to find the solution herself. Hornet begs a moment to contemplate this, and the scene shifts to Lace, who has been present and listening this entire time. Lace notices the mask that Hornet had presumably knocked from the Mask Maker (off screen) lying on the ground. When she picks it up and examines it, the Mask Maker interjects that it does not suit her. Hornet: How might it be done? Mask Maker: Such spellwork sets well beyond my ken… but you are the child of Weaver and Wyrm and command power over memory. Mask Maker: By your sibling’s hand came great change to these lands. The echoes of its actions ring into our present. Call out to them… gather them to you, in whatever way you can. Hornet: I ask a moment, Maker, to contemplate your words. Mask Maker: I fear that mask would fit you poorly, child.

I tried to go into NKG with *all* the lifeblood charms so I could survive long enough to practice the patterns before being rudely reminded that you must bring The Baby into the dream theatre/arena

Also yes I’m now broke again, THANKS DIVINE
The knight, a small bug with a pale visage punctuated by black eyes, slumps on the iron bench to the right of the Elderbug in Dirtmouth. They have 22 lifeblood “masks”, and will therefore die after 11 hits by the final boss of the Grimm Troupe, Nightmare King Grimm.

I'm making a Hollow Knight fan comic called An Elder Hero, following Elderbug during the events of the game!

I've finished the first 3 panels, and I'm looking for an amateur artist who'd like to collaborate with me on the project.

DM me if interested! ❤️

BUG BURGER 03 - A New Hire

i accidentally mandela-effect'd myself into giving bretta an extra pair of arms and now she just looks like that in this AU. please forgive me
[ #bugburger #hollowknight #silksong #aucomic #fanart ]
BUG BURGER 03 - A NEW HIRE quetzaldotdog.art/bugburger p1: Bretta is walking in the bug burger (and has an extra pair of arms for a total of 4 because i fucked up and forgot she only had 2). the bell that indicates someone has entered has rung, she looks towards the sound. p2: she waves happily while The Stench approaches her. Bretta: "Hello, welcome to Bug Bur-" p3: The Stench has hit. she covers her mouth, tears springing in her eyes. "I-" "ACK-" "GHGK-*" p4: she runs off quickly. p1: narrator text reads "SHORTLY..." Lugoli and Elderbug are here. Elderbug: "This is our new back of house member! Everyone say 'hello' to them!" Lugoli nods in confirmation of this. p2: Hornet, The Hollow Knight, Lace, Shakra and Sly just stare blankly. Bretta is hiding behind Shakra, shaking and crying a little. p3: Hornet voices her displeasure. To her right is her sibling Hollow, who has their arms crossed. Hornet: "Elderbug with all due respect this bug smells like ASS" "Is this not a blatant HYGIENE ISSUE?" p4: Elderbug silently approaches Hornet. This page is just one panel, with Hornet and Elderbug looking at each other in somewhat dramatic lighting. Elderbug: "Hornet we are so chronically understaffed it's KILLING us. The only bug who has submitted any application forms in the past 9 MONTHS was this bug. and despite their...OBVIOUS issues, they have past experience in the industry." "I don't care for them or their stench any more than YOU do, but we need to put up with them, at least for a little bit. I've already asked them to clean up before their next shift...if they don't do that, WRITE THEM UP." Hornet, full of dread: "...Heard."

Reward: 20 mins play time with a little-known, hidden indie game about bugs that I found recently. Elderbug is totally my vibe. PSA: this game going to be a big hit... 🪲👀🤪
Elderbug from Hollow Knight, next to each other, with an iron bench to the right, standing near a street light base on blue stone plaza. You peak when you realize that in life, its better to be the NPC versus being the hero. 🧓
