ElectricEye: > On the positive side, the regulations require the ADDW system to work on a “closed loop” without the use of biometric data. This means that the data used to determine whether a driver is “distracted” must not leave the vehicle or be transmitted to the automobile manufacturer, its servers, or any third party. In essence, the data should be processed locally within the vehicle itself. If it would actually operate that way, it would not be that big of a deal. ElectricEye: > However, there are still several concerns surrounding the implementation: > > * The regulations do not impose any independent audit or assurance mechanism to ensure that the ADDW systems installed in automobiles actually operate on a closed-loop basis. > * There’s little clarity over how the data is handled, what happens once the “distraction” decision is made by the system, how long the data is retained, or when it is deleted. > I wish there would be a privacy respecting car firm that would build a privacy respecting car

Instead of this bullshit they shouldjust bump up the fines for driving with your phone, or other bullshit to a level were its actually hurts so that people care. I think driving with your phone should cost 15 000€+ . And it should increase every time you get caught. ElectricEye: > If footage or eye-tracking data from a system like this were ever exposed in a data breach or shared without your knowledge, it could reveal detailed patterns about your daily habits, your location, and who rides in the car with you. That kind of exposure can feed into identity theft or phishing attacks built around information a scammer should never have had. Wouldn’t it be far eassier to just get the lcoation data that the car manufactures has anyway in most cars?

ElectricEye: > Browser extensions make you stand out and can make you unique. It’s part of _browser fingerprinting_. I see this mentioned often but I wouldn’t be concerned about it if you aren’t using a browser that seems to be effective against commercial fingerprinter, fingerprint.com, for surveillance capitalism threat model. That being, Mullvad and Tor Browser. Fingerprint.com demonstrates cross-profile and incognito tracking on chromium-based browsers in my experience, regardless of extensions. 100% agree about attack surface, though and also extensions are frequently compromised or malicious. Not saying that a trusted extension like Bitwarden would have that happen, it’s mostly random shady extensions, but something to note.

ElectricEye: > It prevents bad actors from typosquatting This is an important security consideration, though in the case of Privacy Guides I don’t think that is _strictly_ what they are doing since they host different content on the .net domain and the .org domain. With the .org domain reserved for the official site and recommendations and the .net domain reserved for community contributions on the forum.

ElectricEye: > reputable VPN (like Mullvad) I am using torrent to reduce spending money… But all VPNs that natively allow torrenting are paid (I understand why). Is there any workaround? I just need not to get “strike” from ISP. Someone say I should download via mobile data due to CGNAT privacy. Should I?

Welcome to our community! Rest assured, we do have an increased emphasis on community engagement. Anyone is allowed to comment on changes we make or provide feedback. This change at Techlore was sad not expected. It’s hard enough to manage this one at privacy guides with a dedicated team, I can’t imagine how a two person team over were doing this for the past few months or so. ElectricEye: > There are a few specific forums like GrapheneOS, Qubes OS, Tor Project, Whonix, but they’re obviously quite different from Techlore and Privacy Guides. Agreed especially since they are very tool specific. I’m sure there are others, but we are the only ones that are somewhat tailored to those starting their privacy journey.

ElectricEye: > THO is a well-known and reputable member in the privacy community. That doesn’t by default make him an authority on how best to evaluate things especially when the reputation appears to be waning if thought about it critically (or atleast ought to be). You should read up on the Proton video he made that was posted here and see what people are thinking. THO is becoming more and more sus if he keeps up with being contrarian just for the sake of it.
