"Oh, one more thing, sir. I don't know much about physics, but my wife, she really likes to read about it. And lookin' at this investigation, sir, how much do you know about electrostatics?"

Oh, sorry, that's Colombo's Law.

1/5 Two negative charges should shove each other apart — electrostatics 101. Yet in crowded, salty water, like charges sometimes cling together. The culprit isn't the charges. It's the water between them. #academicsky #biophysics #philsci

JEE electrostatics trap: a capacitor is charged, the battery is disconnected, then a dielectric (k) goes in. Q stays the same, C becomes kC, V drops to V/k (not kV), and energy decreases. Free notes with a worked problem: studyroadmap.in/notes/jeemai... #JEE

2/5 Stepanyan, Mamasakhlisov & Allahverdyan (2026) build a mean-field electrostatics where each molecule has finite size and a rigid charge pattern — not a point. In that regime, like charges can attract.

4/5 What's modeled: an equilibrium, mean-field system of rigid charge distributions. What's not: a claim that DNA condenses this way in your nucleus. The paper's real point is that size-aware ('nonlocal') electrostatics behaves qualitatively differently from the point-charge textbook.

I'm so lost with electrostatics that I've turned to Wikipedia and. I've learned so much. I've been enlightened.

New Perspective in ACS Catalysis. The “interaction radius” reframes a COF active site as a spatially distributed catalytic domain. Electronic delocalization, electrostatics, H-bonding, pore confinement & solvation together govern pathways and ammonia selectivity. #COF #NO3RR doi.org/10.1021/acsc...

What problem it solves

Computing protein electrostatics is slow and expensive. A faster method could accelerate drug design and enzyme engineering significantly.

I ran ShEPhERD-2 (Coley lab, MIT) on a Colab A100. It makes 3D molecules matching a reference ligand's shape, electrostatics and pharmacophores. From one PARP1 reference: 46/50 valid, median Tc to known actives 0.33. The README CLI needs a one-line fix. #Cheminformatics

To understand how histone deacetylation drives compaction in apoptosis & living cells, we used synthetic nanobodies to direct charge to the nucleosome surface. Our charged nanobodies drove compaction & decompaction in cells, showing nucleosome electrostatics alone can determine chromatin density.

lmao i was worried for nothing, the electrostatics exam was trivial

i only needed Kirchhoff's circuit laws like twice, which is the most basic thing possible 😭

Hydrophobicity correlating with both interfacial electrostatics and radical generation suggests surface chemistry—not polymer identity alone—is the relevant exposure variable. A key boundary test is whether natural ageing, biofilms and dissolved organic matter preserve or suppress this mechanism.

I tooted earlier in the week about doing an electrostatics training course and I really missed Delta's dance because I was hoping she was earthed through "footwear and floor" otherwise she was probably charged to 35 kV. #Strictly
