Elecampane, AKA elfdock. This perennial herb is steeped in mythology. Believed to ward off evil, and associated with the myth of Helen of Troy, it has also been used for centuries as a folk treatment for respiratory issues. 🌱🐝

I don't know the full story (and would love to - email in profile), but am sorry that elfdock is no longer here. They were 100% so supportive + educational of any research on Andrew Forrest, First Nations, Agriculture + Climate.

Two elfdock blossoms, not quite fully bloomed yet. The larger, central one is nearly there. The smaller one in the lower left corner still has many petals not yet completely unfurled from the flower's center. The picture was run through home brew image processing software which matched the original pixels to the nearest color equivalents in the PIL jet palette. Details were then outlined in black.

Yes elfdock, that was one of the issues I raised with them. No response.

But even if the whole thing is legit, its taken them 3 mths to get 250k people, at that rate it'll be YEARS before they are 'ready'.

We don't have that luxury.

Round-leaved Fluellen. The plant name 'fluellen' comes from the Welsh phrase 'llysiau Llewellyn', literally translating as 'Llewellyn's herbs'. Historically, this common name was applied to various trailing plants valued in old herbal medicine. Squinancywort, whose name comes from 'squinancy' (an old word for quinsy, a severe throat infection or tonsillitis) and wort (an old English term for a plant or herb). It translates as 'the sore throat plant' because people historically used it as a herbal remedy and gargle to treat quinsy. The name Ploughman's Spikenard consists of 'spikenard' - an ancient, costly perfume derived from a Himalayan plant (Nardostachys jatamansi) - and 'ploughman', reflecting folk use. Rural workers used its aromatic roots as an affordable local substitute or air freshener in their homes. The name Elecampane (Inula helenium) comes from the medieval Latin 'enula campana' meaning 'enula of the field'. It is also known by various common and historical names, including horse-heal (historically used in treating skin conditions in horses), elfdock or elfwort (old folklore claimed the plant could ward off elf-shots and magic), scabwort (because it treated scabs and skin issues), and velvet dock (referring to the soft texture of its large leaves).

Elecampane (Inula helenium) is an old friend in my garden. It reaches five feet in height, bearing three-inch yellow flowers. The leaves. are quite large.. You could mistake this herb for a sunflower for it is part of the large daisy (compositae) family. Composite blooms look like a single flower but are made of many individual florets formed into an inflorescence and usually surrounded by ray flowers called ligules. Next time you see a daisy or aster examine the center carefully to discover the many small florets. I have made cough syrup from the elecampane roots, and while the somewhat bitter syrup kept well in the refrigerator it was not exactly delicious. I am unable to say if it helped coughs or was just a placebo. The root of this herb is sometimes candied.

Not sure those figures are correct elfdock. What I do think is our tax system and negative gearing encourages people to consider houses and apartments as investments from which to make as much money as possible instead of as dwellings to give shelter to people at a reasonable rent.
