Abstract. Although Calligenethlon watsoni, an enigmatic embolomere from Joggins, Nova Scotia, has been known since 1934, an in-depth description of its ana

For something completely different

~ 300 mya fossils reveal first vertebrate land dwellers not what we thought

Shift from water to land didn’t require amphibian-like metamorphosis

Direct development of stem tetrapods across the fin-to-limb transition🧪

Exceptionally preserved hatchling fossils demonstrate that early tetrapods didn't have an aquatic larval phase but instead developed directly into juveniles. Metamorphoses, like what you'd see in modern amphibians, likely evolved later! 🧪

New paper! Embolomeres are often portrayed as amniote forerunners. I describe a well-preserved braincase of the embolomere Archeria, with additional evidence that this is probably not the case:

Last Thursday, a publication I coauthored was published in The Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society. In the publication, we provided a revised diagnosis and description of the Pennsylvanian embolomere Calligenethlon watsoni. The data can be accessed @ MorphoSource.org via media # 0006677245

Is that supposed to be an embolomere?

I decided that I wanted to do a fully-traditional paleoart project to see how it would change my process. I created a series of tonal drawings to decide on the overall/ compostion, setting and pose, as well as giving me something to reference for the final painting stage. #SciArt #PaleoArt

Yaklaşık 300 milyon yıl öncesine ait timsah benzeri canlıların, embolomere bebek fosillerini masaya yatırdılar. Fosillerde kurbağa iribaşlarına özgü dış solungaç gibi yapıların bulunmaması, evrim teorisindeki köklü bir inanışı sarstı.

Chicago yakınlarındaki Mazon Creek'te keşfedilen timsah benzeri eski yırtıcıların, embolomere, bebek fosilleri, ilk 4 bacaklı canlıların kurbağalar gibi iribaş, tetrapod evresi geçirmediğini ortaya koydu.

“TETRAPOD REMAINS FROM THE EWING LIMESTONE (CARBONIFEROUS: KASIMOVIAN) OF OHIO”

Another fun abstract accepted. Anthracosaur jaw of some sort? Embolomere? Neopteroplax? Looking forward to seeing this prepped.

Palaeontologists have found new evidence that the early ancestors of amphibians, reptiles and mammals did not have a larval stage with external gills like modern frogs or salamanders
