Also, if you are going to make a case for “innere Emigration” let us not the forget the many people who did and do not have that option. And let us at least consider Hannah Arendt’s argument who called the concept of “innere Emigration“ “quite simply, a lie”.

Yeah, they've won every policy debate, obtained every concession, we are doomed to net emigration, c.100,000 deportations and the longest period for settlement in Europe and the net result is...what?

There are days when I think leaving the UK permanently would be hard and then there are days where I'm excited to push this country into net-emigration so its death can be accelerated.

I don't feel pressed to obtain it right now, and if anything Germany or Netherlands is my likeliest emigration destination.

The exemption for care workers is very welcome.

However - as @jamesbowes01.bsky.social & @sundersays.bsky.social have indefatigably pointed out - this still puts tens/hundreds of thousands at risk of forced emigration/remigration.

It’s such a wonderful history of Liverpool told through one family. WW1 and WW2, medals, work in the shipyards, the Lusitania, emigration, a 112 year old! family holidays. I don’t think #liverpoolrecordoffice appreciate the depth. A real shame.

Emigration is, I’m afraid, not such a simple thing.

I’ve been extremely fortunate with family money for ma + PhD, then received money due to [traumatic life event]. EVEN THEN it’s excruciatingly expensive. No ragrets ofc, but I do laugh when fools claim emigration is somehow trivial!

Yes, in part because rates of emigration are going up. Net migration has two components to it.

Reform pledge net emigration

Their own economic plan numbers included the cheat booking in raising an additional £8-10 billion/year from visa fees + new taxes on employing migrants, above current plans, which are absurd numbers, impossible to combine with a pledge of significant net emigration!

Hope their emigration plans are all sorted.
