Peak warming has consequences beyond the point when CO2 emissions stop.

Interesting findings on how the zero-emissions commitment (ZEC) increases at higher warming levels, with implications for climate overshoot and reversibility.

Zero emissions commitment depends on warming level - Nature Climate Change
The global temperature change that happens after emissions cease is expected to be close to zero. Here the authors use model simulations to show that this zero emissions commitment depends on the warm...

❗Canada's #emissions went up in 2025, driven largely by the increased use of gas to heat and power buildings — up ~6% 🏠⚡

Scaling up Canada’s supply of clean electricity is critical to reducing emissions.

FYI Rhodium Group limited their analysis of emissions under #BAAJA emissions transmission and gas-pipeline permitting.

They did not model emissions from exports or the bill’s permitting certainty provisions, which irrevocably lock in more fossil fuels.

Do better, @heatmap.news.

Beware accounting tricks that let governments & companies do what they’ve always done (or not very much) & claim they are helping the climate.

It’s widely acknowledged that methane emissions need to significantly fall—and cutting methane can rapidly reduce warming while we reduce CO2 emissions too.

New reports say more robust and accurate accounting of livestock-based emissions should underpin the all-out effort needed to slow global warming.

I modeled the potential economic and environmental impacts of BAAJA, the permitting bill the Senate will soon vote on. Under assumptions that I consider plausible, BAAJA likely increases domestic greenhouse gas emissions and domestic mortality attributable to air pollution.

Most of these models show emissions dropping relative to a baseline of higher emissions, which means they also show emissions rising, for example:

Some absolutely mind-boggling numbers in this excellent article. As I've been screaming for years now: AI is on track to become a major global polluting industry on par with the worst we've got today.

GWP100 is most commonly used in analyses of the emissions impacts of food.

When they applied GWP20 across 16 food categories and 222 food items, comparing it with GWP100, they found that livestock-based foods, beef in particular, produced much higher emissions.
