Fossil of Giant Squid-Like Creature from Cretaceous Period Bears Marks of Deadly Attack | Sci.News
Paleontologists studying a fossil unearthed in southern Manitoba, Canada, have identified what they believe are two bite marks on the internal skeleton of the ancient giant cephalopod Enchoteuthis, offering rare evidence of predator-prey interactions in the Cretaceous seas that once covered the middle of North America. “In the Mesozoic, cephalopods were one of the most abundant and diverse groups in the marine realm,” University of Manitoba paleontologist Melina Jobbins and colleagues wrote in their paper. “Cephalopods, including coleoids and ammonites, served as a great food source for predators such as marine reptiles and fish.”

While it may look like a squid, Enchoteuthis is more at home in #OCTOtober, as its closest living relatives are octopuses
While most common in the Late Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway, this specimen shows that the genus also lived in the Pacific, and it has even been found in Australia!

Wasn't the big specimen moved to the genus enchoteuthis?

IK Its proven that Cephalopods cant recognize themselves in the Mirror but the Question still debate that Can Prehistoric Cephalopods have the same intelligence as their Future Descendants?

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Enchoteuthis melanae

From Late Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway, North America, "spear squid" was a giant squid sized cephalopod. Though often compared to squid, it's actually closer to octopuses. It was both a hunter itself and also prey to larger predators

The other cephalopod, the shell-less Tusoteuthis has not aged well at all; modern research suggests a vaguely Humboldt Squid-like appearance.

Tusoteuthis is also no longer regarded as valid, specimens attributed to the genus are either undiagonstic or belong to Enchoteuthis.
