3/ Many giant otters are known in the fossil record, mostly in the genera Enhydritherium (North America), Siamogale, and Enhydriodon (old world). While Siamogale has never been considered to be a sea otter ancestor, both Enhydriodon and Enhydritherium have been proposed.

Cali needed a Enhydriodon (giant river otter) form to go with her other forms that I have been hoarding. ^^"

Added the saber teeth, while the Enhydriodon does not have teeth like this, they do have some serious sharp chompers, I just love the long teefs.. #otter #enhydriodon #ocart #fursona

Has anyone ever thought about what Enhydriodon omoensis may have sounded like?

Early Hominins of the Pliocene didn't stand a chance against the giant otter Enhydriodon.

Finally finished the reference for my Tauren druid’s Enhydriodon (giant river otter) feral form and I’m honestly so excited about her. Using the green dreamsaber as a stand-in for gaming, and I’m hoping I can make this concept feel right through RP and gameplay.

"...Enhydriodon, a successful genus of giant otter that lived from the Late Miocene to the Early Pleistocene. It was the largest Mustelid so far known, with E. omoensis being about the size of a lion."

21/ Unless more evidence is found for derivation from Enhydritherium, at present there's no evidence for in situ evolution from any North American mustelid, hinting at a 'foreign' origin. Admittedly, phylogenetic evidence is weak, but supports affinities with the Eurasian Enhydriodon:

19/ Another specimen worth mentioning is Enhydra sp. from the Gubik Formation of Alaska (G). It compares well with modern Enhydra (M) but has molar alveoli nearly identical to the European giant otter Enhydriodon lluecai. This one might be older than E. reevei.

Enhydriodon. We have them in the Siwaliks as well

Allow me to introduce you to the enhydriodon omoensis

This pliocene otter was probably the size of a lion, measured to 8.2 feet long and stood about 3.3 feet tall on all fours, and possibly weighed somewhere in the ballpark of 440 pounds.

Basically, me in vrchat

🦖 Daily Paleo 🦖; Enhydriodon spp.

From Late Miocene to Early Pleistocene Africa, India, and Pakistan, "otter tooth" is an extinct genus of otters, with some species reaching sizes comparable to lions. It used its advanced dentition to crush prey items or feed on carion
