#entoprocta
Looking top down at an Entoprocta - an animal that has a phylum all of its own! It looks like there are 4 families in this phylum. I don’t know much about them but I like them!

This is extremely cool! These are the ‘creeping larvae’ of an Entoprocta, which is an animal that lives on the sea floor and uses a lophophore (like a crown of ciliates tentacles) to feed. The beginning of the video is a timelapse, and thereafter it is realtime.

This is Trapania miltabrancha from the east coast of Bali. This #Nudibranch feeds on tiny Entoprocta that is often present on sponges.

Controversial phylum to introduce you to today. These are the Entoprocta or Goblet Worms. They are...generous with the definition of a worm.

What do you think?
Shall we allow this goblet shaped wannabe into our worm club?

I think the ones I'm missing are:

Entoprocta
Loricifera
Nematomorpha
Onychophora
Orthonectida
Placozoa

There were apparently proposals to abandon the term bryozoa, but this was not done because it would make the literature confusing. The Japanese must have coined the term 外肛動物 after it was recognized that ectoprocta and entoprocta were different.

The "outside anus" refers to the fact that the anus was located just outside of the lophophore, the tentacles that surround the mouth of the bryozoa. Bryozoa is an older term that originally could also refer to entoprocta, a completely different type of animal, but was not recognized at that time.

Updated the #InverteFest phylum list! Now with better (invented) common names! As before, please click on the images because I don't know how to size for the bsky preview.

The check marks are blank this time, so YOU can download and fill it out - which phyla have you met? 🧪🦑

I’m guessing that’s what researchers said when they discovered Symbion

For #InverteFest, I decided to list all 33 invertebrate phyla. I have seen 20 of them alive (all but Acoels, Nematoda, and Onychophora were in the wild or collected in the wild). Click the images, they look better than the preview.

Which ones have you met/do you want to meet?

Some days I hate taxonomy... Apparently, Polyzoa is both a superphyletic named clade containing Bryozoa and Entoprocta (maybe Cycliophora too) AND a valid tunicate genus...

冠輪動物(螺旋動物)および内肛動物の未出版のゲノム系統学的研究などが含まれているようです!
Apparently includes, among other things, unpublished phylogenomic studies of Lophotrochozoa (Spiralia) and Entoprocta!
