Hurricane Polo's rapid intensification is seriously impressive... A special 19Z update was issued by the NHC stating that reconnaissance aircraft found that Polo's central pressure is sitting at 892 mb, the 2nd strongest EPAC hurricane by pressure only behind Hurricane Patricia (2015; 872 mb).

Remarkably, this is still three more systems than the WPAC basin, which has yet to witness its first TC of the 2025 calendar year.

Things are already picking up in the EPAC. The cloud pattern with this disturbance off the W coast of Mexico is starting to show an arcing pattern. Some computer models turn this into #Hurricane ALVIN—but they all have it unraveling before it recurves into the coast of Mexico.

Another EPAC cyclone blowing up before landfall. Pressure in Hurricane #Erick dropped rapidly from 977mb to 972mb between passes (from center dropsondes). Closed eye was really wrapping up the second time through. Next 53 WRS mission will be in the storm this evening.
