the user experience hasn't improved much on the whole since the days of epsxe and snes9x and the general patience for tech tinkering amongst younger people is much lower on account of their computing being in low friction environments (mobile). they probably just think it's a pain in the ass

Apparently when they hyped up the "carbon engine" they meant a shit emulator outclassed by early versions of epsxe.
Some notes I took about the new Gex Trilogy release before work (and then shared in a server 2 hours afterwards)

I always used ePSXe, but that was because it was the only one I really knew of...I'll look at it!

folks i am a game developer, compared to the tools i use snes9x and epsxe let alone duckstation are super easy to use. i'm not talking about me or even you. i think most young people don't have the vernacular for windows application design language on hand anymore period

Back in 2003 when I had a measly Pentium 4 with S3 Savage onboard graphics that would fold under ePSXe on most games, the Spider-Man games were actually playable.
Those were the first PSX games that I played fully, on my own without going to a friend's house.

So after recommendation from chat on my Crash 2 stream, I finally made the jump from ePSXe to DuckStation today (and I was fortunately able to transfer my saves so no lost progress on that Crash 2 stream).
And WOW, what a night-and-day difference between the two!
